So I went to a wedding on Saturday and I had to park my Mark in a ramp in the cities (ick) .... after the wedding I got in my car and drove from the ramp to my dorm room, about 10 miles. When I got to my dorm I noticed my neon tail light looked funny.... like it was sitting kind of far out from the car. So I pulled on it a bit and it just pulled off the car!!!

I undid the wiring and stowed it in my trunk.... EVERY mounting screw had broken completely off the tail light!!!!

I don't know how it happened, I have a suspicion that some crack head walked by and gave it a tug but who know.... I epoxied the hell out of it and it looks to be holding so far... what a PITA.

BTW... the bolts for the tail are M4 .70... I had to run a die down all of them because I got a little wild with the epoxy... :D

yea when my grand prix was on daily duty I used to cringe EVERY single time i had to park it.....got to the point I got another car just so I didn't have to take it out....lol

I'm going to be doing that eventually. I couple mounting tabs are broken off and it's only going to get worse. I don't want to be doing 80 and have the thing fly off into traffic.

i have 4 screws holding my neon on to the trunk........2 centers, and one at the ends on each side...........the rest pretty much fell off when i took it off to change the ballast......... :(

its been a year, put crazy glue on the remaining screws and theyve held so far.......

bummer...

when I last drove my Mark (Dec) I parked it in a parking lot-next day, I got in (or should I say, 'tried') and found the passenger door handle was broken-it WAS the one that was tight, and perfect. I still think someone tried to get in and pulled on the handle hard enough to break it (like, how hard is that?). New handles ordered, painted to match, and installed, all fixed-for now.

I guess all cars have 'weak links'.

well its isnt normal no but on a nothern car thats as old as yours with cheap ass plastic mounts that are supposed to hold the bolts in over time, breaking plastic is normal, i have taken many neons out and had half the mounts snap off like twigs. just another half ass design from ford, you learned another cut corner on your car!!!! someone might have tugged on it and cracked all them, they break very easily.

I'm glad my house has a garage but we are always vulnerable on the street. Glad you were able to repair it KK.

It appears to be holding very well so far.... I gave it two full coats of epoxy.... It seems ok at least.... I hope

My sisters jeep and my Monte Carlo were vandalized last week, slashed 2 of her tires, spray painted her car, wrote 'bloods' on mine. :q:q:q:qin chumps. If the Lincoln gets touched someones getting sliced....

you mean half ass design from sylvania :D

I would keep my car in my pocket if I could. And although it's a northern car don't you store it?

It was davidc114. He has quite a knack for bringing back old threads for the dead. See the for sale section.

hey , you never know if someone still may have something for sale, i just searched for some stuff and i knew they were old threads, but i didnt really think it would bother anyone if i asked if it was still available..

Midwestern weather is hard on cars. My drivers side mirror popped out last year, luckily snapped right back in.

Bringing up the vandalism stuff again, brought back way too many almost forgotten memories!:( Since I am new here nobody knows what happened to my first car. I had a 1996 Cordovan Diamond Anniversary Mark 8 that was perfect! I got it with 55,000 miles on it! Someone broke all of the windows out of it and beat it with a ?bat/stick? and then they cut all of the seats and interior with a blade. Ruined my car. Cut the tires, I mean ruined everything except the engine. I saved the engine and put it in another Mark 8 that I bought. I still wish I could find out who did it:cool:!!!
