Is an x-pipe essential?

I am going to install a 2.5 pipe true dual exhaust system from the manifolds with two magnaflows. Do i have to install an x-pipe or can I just run two pipes back? What are the pros?

x pipe, dual x pipe, h pipe, y pipe, dual in dual out muffler, do something or won't flow well and sound terrible.

If you don't cross the system somehow, it will sound very flappy. Sounds like A$$ without it...not "essential", but very well worth the money

Or you can run a single exhaust off of every exhaust port.... :D

While we're on the subject, I have a quick question: the LSC's came stock with true duals, correct? Do they have any sort of crossover(s) built into the system? Just curious.

Very good info! Thanks! My parents have a 96 LSC, but I've never been under there to see how the exhaust is run. I just always knew theirs was true duals and the 93 I had was a 2-1-2 design.

Definitely get a H or Xpipe. I ran my car with no crossover for about a month and it sounded like some kind of hillbilly hayhauler pickup truck.

I recommend an X over an H, for tone purposes, an X gives a more deep sound while the H sounds kinda raspy. Double X is a bit much IMO, but it'll make it a tad quieter

I need to cut the X off my scrap heap 93 and use it on the 98 :) I bet it's gonna sound killer with the MagnaFlow Bullets I'm using

You got that backwards Sapper. H is deeper, X is raspier.

Yup i have had both and prefer the h-pipe sound but the x pipe seems to flow a bit better.

:)Yep. Gotta agree with that. My '97 LSC with H-pipe and cherry bombs definitely has a deep rumble. Sounds like a classic 60's musclecar. I love it!!! But yeah, you have to cross the system or you'll get a harsh, "blatty" sound that would probably sound nasty.

Old 93 had stock lsc exhaust system I installed a xpipe with flowbastards

And my current 98 has a hpipe installed much prefer the sound of the h over x any day

When I got my 97 it had the coil conversion and by the looks of the exhaust system it rode on bad air suspension for a long time. Had a cat-back install done (with 3rd cat delete) to fix the beat up, leaky exhaust. System no longer leaks, but still sounds like crap cause no crossover was installed to compensate for the 3rd cat delete. Be careful who you let work on your car, and do your homework.
