bottom end was clean, thankfully. no sludge like the commertials.

look at them rusty ass motor mounts!!! its very rare to find a sludgy bottom end. all the 4.6's i have torn apart i have only opened one that was filled with sludge, it also had 299k on it and the guy never heard the term oil change. its not hard to keep a 4.6 clean, just regular oil changes!

Fun job, eh!? I got to do mine twice when the brand new one I got from the dealer leaked as well too! grr...
Between the pans and swaybar fun, I am an expert at dropping the subframe of these cars in no time

they are almost always super tight, aluminum block + steel bolts = corrosion! i stripped the head on one and everything i tried slipped so i used a 15mm "turbo socket" and hammered it over the washer and pulled till i heard it pop, i got it but it took along time.

as to your question remove all the bolts and tap with a 10# hammer. as for the crack it looks like chicken could apply for a illinois plumbers license.

I pull oil pans at the junkyard and have never had an issue with the bolts. Mind you these are desert/dry climate cars, but never had one give a fight.

Bolts came off mine good too. Only bolt I had trouble with was the lower bug strut bolt. Air hammer took quick care of that

mine had one that wouldn't come out too, its somewhat common, hell ive seen ones cross threaded from the factory

That 96 we picked up in Jersey was in horrible shape corrosion wise.


Every exaust stud snapped, EVERY bellhousing bolt pulled threads (even cracked the block at the top two bolts). Dave spent 3 months under the damned thing cleaning it before we put any parts back on it.


I'll NEVER buy another rust belt/seaboard car in my life.
