HELP!!! RPM stuck at 2,300!!!

I went against my better judgement and fell into peer pressure that was telling me to do donuts in the snow. Once I was done the car just wanted to run at a high rpm. Now at idle it stays at 2,300. Nothing else seems wrong. Belt doesn't seem to be slipping, air box is clear, exhaust is clear. What could be wrong????
 
Hahaha damn I'm in the same boat right now. But I replaced a UCA.

Tell me what it is when u figure it out.
 
Next time its stuck put it in park and tap the iac. Should close it if its stuck open. My 2011 f150 does that for some reason pos tranny or ecm.
 
Dude, we've all gone through that. It is indeed the IAC. I am still dealing w/issues with mine. I have swapped it twice & my car still idles @ 1,200rpm's.

I doubt u can reach it on a Gen 1 w/the car running. That intake has to be removed to reach it.
 
If you own a Mark and you get on it once in a while it happens-changing an IAC out is a PITA, but can be done (beer helps).

Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for about 15 minutes, then reinstall it-might help.

Do not try to drive it like that, you'll trash your trans in a short time. Try disconnecting the harness going to the IAC, it will idle very slowly but you might be able to get by until you solve it.
 
IAC is a big suspect but cant say its DEFINATLY the problem. Getting on it could have broke a VAC line or something could be holding the throttle open (cable is old and sticking, gunk around the throttle blade etc etc)
You can test this theroy by simply unplugging the IAC. If the RPM drops and tries to stall, well there ya go. If there is no/minimal change then you need to look down inside the throttle and make sure its closing. If not, check the cable, look for crap in the bore, lube linkages. If it is closing look for vac leaks. Vac leaks are unlikely cause the car usually just runs rough and tries to stall but I have seen weirder things.

umm, driving it like this, i would be far more worried about knocking a rocker arm off before wrecking the trans. common problem with the 93-95's is high rpm's and knocking rockers off and losing a cylinder. :q:q:q:qty valve springs, 93-95 are pre- beehive era.
 
this sucks! ill try disconnecting the iac. with it disconnected, would it be ok to drive for a few days until i get paid and can buy a new one!
 
Ok, disconnected IAC. Idle went back to normal. but now... shifted into gear for a test drive, rubbery squeaky chirping sound coming from tranny, wont shift out of first gear and once you let off the gas the idle falls straight down just like a diesel.... is my tranny F****D or is there a vacuum line that regulates the rpm for shift points? This is getting bad because im all alone at college and my dad will kill me if he finds out what happened.
 
I think you could just leave out the part about doing donuts. Try unplugging the battery for a few minutes...
 
Donuts in the snow with a Mark VIII? I hope you didn't just hold it to the floor relying on the rev limiter to save your vehicle...
 
No I never let it go over 4k rpm. I bought a new TPS and throttle body gasket. I'll try that and see what happens
 
it doesnt matter what rpm's you went to, the fact is you are a broke college student and you are out blowing donuts in a 4000lb daily driver lincoln thats 16 years old. i mean, in the end its a luxury lincoln and if you want to blow donuts and abuse the piss out of it, things are going to break. i'm tellin you right now, you have damaged the transmission a tps or gaskets are not gonna help you out one bit.
 
The 95 LSC I just bought idled about 3000 before I bought it; I fixed it for the lady.

The problems?

IAC valve and some vacuum leaks. She said it NEVER idled so good as when I was finished with it the whole time she owned it!
