Got stranded today,any ideas??

Hmmm, sounds like a dirty MAF and maybe a stuck injector or bad FPR. After it stalls out pull the plugs and see if they are wet or stink of gas. If so then you need to verify fuel pressure and maybe pull the injectors and have them checked.

I have a set of 8 I am about to rebuild with new seals and filters. I can work you a deal on them should that prove to be your problem.

I will do that after i go get a battery charger.I have cleaned the MAF and reset the battery and it didnt help.Do you know if a fuel pressure gauge can be rented?

I think you can get one from Autozone. Just gotta give em the cost of it and they refund it when you bring it back.

O'Reilly rents them as well. Its like $30 but as stated, you get it all back when you return the tool.

Damn if I had known I woulda suggested go there....HELL I woulda gone there

Oh,i will be getting all of that back tomorrow;)Also the code reader was $160.50 too.Talk about sticker shock:eek:

Yeah I bought one of them off EBAY a long time ago. Cheap and it works for everything I need.

Could be a stuck IAC problem. Had that with my '98 wouldn't start finally started when I held gas down and turned key. Ran rough for awhile till warmed up. Also gave me weird codes, fuel mixture, and others. IAC is on top of motor I believe 2 small bolts and a 2 wire connector. Take off and be sure it is free inside, little rod moves in and out. Spay out with WD or PB Blaster, test on battery, polarity one way it goes in reverse polarity and it goes out. Hope that works it's too easy!

Yeah mine is very clean but i have read that they are cheaply made and go out all of the time.Might be worth it to pick one up.

Ok,so i have never used a fuel pressure gauge but i screwed in the piece that screws in the the fuel rail and then screwed the gauge into that piece.I get nothing registering on he gauge, maybe 2 PSI but i hear the fuel pump priming.Does it sound like i have this screwed together right? As far as the IAC goes,i took it off and had my son turn thekey on engine off and i hear it whir and then it pops BUT i see no movement from the shaft. Can anyone shed any light?Could it be the FPR?

This is what i have.Does this look right?

Ok,one last update.I just got the car to start with starting fluid. It ran fine until i stopped spraying it.The fuel gauge was moving under 10 PSI.Is this fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator?I hear the pump priming every time.

Chamge the fuel filter first and check pressure again. If its still under 35ish psi with a new filter then its time for a new fuel pump. But thats your problem, no fuel pressure assuming the gauge is hooked up right.

Laser, thanks again for your reply.I am bummed.I dont see how 2 days ago it can be running so rich that the interior smelled like fuel for hours and there was black smoke coming out of the exhaust to not enough fuel pressure and it wont start without starting fluid:(

Never be sorry, I am learning - love reading all the suggestions and "check lists" before trying to replace anything

Awesome responses hotties!!!

Thats because with the low fuel pressure the fuel was "pooling" in the cylinders and not exploding. If the injectors cant mist the fuel then it cant atomize and its the fumes that explode, not so much the gas itself. Fuel was only being added like a drip from a faucet.

Fuel filters are cheap and need to be replaced every 15k. I do mine every third oil change cause of the blower and larger pump. Anyway, change the filter first and see if it helps. If not then its time for a new pump.

If you plan on doing serious mods like full exhaust, Cobra plenum and a tune then go ahead and install a Focus SVT pump now. If you are gonna stay closer to stock with an exhaust then just get a 180 or 190lph pump.

Hope it helps.
