Hey Guys

Well here I go again, on the hunt for an LSC, this one is a Red 1997 grey interior, one owner 100K mile Florida car, supposedly runs real good, made the trip up from FLA. to NY with no prob, has some chrome vintage accessories, but overall looks great in the pictures, Octastars are a plus, whitewalls need to go, has a rear cracked light...how expensive are the rear lights on the 97's? easy fix? also the drivers seat and back are a little worn, is that an easy fix to replace the covers? anyway, take a look at the pics and let me know what you guys think. $3400 cash

Clear coat looks fubard. I'd only pay $1500 or maybe $2000. A good paint job is around $3000 to $6000. The rear light is not too hard to fix. Where I am at there better Marks that than that for $3400.

Loose the chrome around the wheels and the whitewalls and it would look nice. Depending on how tight the car is, and how good the engine runs would be the deciding factor on whether $3,400 is too much or not! I usually find the ones that need work and the owners know nothing about them so they sell them for a $1000 and have something simple wrong with them. My car now I will have about $1200 in it and it has a 15k mile remanufactured motor and tranny. 79k miles on the car and it looks really good inside and out. All I had to do was install the engine and tranny. Came with the car for $980 and I have had to get a few gaskets and small parts for the installation. But if it runs perfect that is about what they are worth!

Not a good deal at $3400.

I'd keep looking for a nicer car.

wow, not the news I was hoping to hear... the car is pretty far and I have been looking everywhere for one hoping I would find one that is decent enough to buy.
So, what makes this car not such a good deal? what would make you guys say that? what should I be looking for? After all these cars are 12 years old at best.
thanks for the input, dont want to make a mistake

as reference i bought my 97 lsc w/122k 3 years ago for 3k..it needed a 100 bucks worth of susp work, drivers side strut, washer button, and acouple misc int things some epoxy or superglue fixed.
The hids, neon, cupholder ect all worked. No dents, very minor scratches.

i wouldnt pay more than 3k for it imho.

Man, Joebug, you seem to have money to spend on a Mark. I suggest you get a one way ticket and come down to Texas. You can find a nice Mark, and have money for upgrades.

+1

There are a crap ton of nicer Marks here. The 98 CE in Dallas for 3K is a better deal.

geeze..just noticed the bumper..2750 if the hids, neon, cupholder, blend door actuator work and if the int is in good shape. if any of the above are broken i wouldnt pay over 2500

x2...keep on looking around..seems like you got the money for a really nice mark..just wait.

Any time they are posting pics of the car when wet should send up the red flags immediately.

See, thats why I'm glad I found this forum... I'll keep an eye out for something better for sure, trouble is, they are few and far between up here and when you do find them this is what I am up against... it's either a low mileage car and they are asking 5-6K or high mileage for 3-4K really high mileage like over 150K to 200K for $1500 to $3000
I guess I will find one eventually, GMAN:still kicking myself for passing up that 98 CE

hey

I think I am going to pull the trigger on this one. I got her down to $2800, everything works, the paint is actually pretty decent except for the trunk, the pictures made it look hazy, I'm hoping a clay bar will fix the trunk area, if not I'll have it sprayed, it is a one owner car will all the documents, dealer maintained until the poor guy died. Octastars are decent with only minor discoloration around the edges, no dents, or dings, only one small chip in the paint in the front, runs smooth and just turned 100K miles, trunk is clean, rear seats have never been sat in, no abs or traction control lights are on, CD changer in the trunk, roof doesnt leak although it looks like it was left open as there is a stain on the slider, can that slider be replaced?
Well, I have been looking for months and still nothing has popped up: for $2800 I dont think I can get hurt with this one... just need a few small parts to make it complete...
Thats about it...

Does the heat and AC work (blend door)? Does the neon work? Seat tracks work on both sides? Any rust underneath?

Yes everything is still working, at least when I checked it out the other day. heat/ac worked, seat tracks moved, steering wheel moved in and out, no rust on this car, from Florida... neon works, brakes felt good, steering was tight... dealer maintained this car, a book full of documents along with original owners manual. I dont think I will be able to find one much better for any less... at least around here in NY, everything is expensive here...

Hey Joe!
That car was on Craigslist down here for about a month. They started at $5000 I think. I guess they drove it up north. I think you are getting a good deal. Good luck with it!

Hey

Yes you are right but it was $4000 though... they seemed to be very picky who they wanted this car to go to, being it was their late Father's. The caliber of people that were viewing it wasted alot of their time with offers and then not showing back up with the cash. They were hesitant to even have people come look at it again, the ad I responded to was very old and I didnt even know if it was still for sale being the ad was so old. It took her 1 week to call me back and took me 2 weeks for me to get down there and she didnt let anyone else see the car after the first guy stiffed her.
I went down there and we hit it off pretty good and the lady agreed to sell it to me. It does need a little bit of work here and there but nothing major. I think it was a good deal considering how much these cars are selling for around here. for that kind of money you just cant go wrong...
thanks for all the advice, I'll post some decent pictures of it once I get it in my possesion.
