Gen2 salvage rebuild (cosmetic only): best bang for the buck headlight option?

jmtiseo, did your deal happen?

They shipped last week. Didn't think it was worth updating the thread as it will show that the item on eBay has been sold.

As mentioned, the reflectors are different between HID and halogen. I'm not sure what is different but from the looks of it the halogen has your traditional parabolic reflector where the HID reflecter is broken into what seems like 3 sections to direct the light.

It's really easy to spot the differences as described above. It's not too often you see someone knowingly sell halogen headlights as HID and vice versa. Unfortunately if someone doesn't know what they're looking for they either pay a pretty for something just isn't what it's supposed to be or they walk away with a steal of a deal like some of our members.

Good luck on the search. They seem to have been popping up more now. It seems as when I was looking I was lucky to find one every 3 weeks or so.

i think i remember seeing the post with the two headlights but if i remember right (i dont always) the only pictures i saw were of two illuminated lights, one hid one hal. based on that picture the ball of light appeared to be shaped different, which would be indicative of the reflector bowl being slightly diff shape

i dunno ill take your guys word for it, but i cant tell diff btwn the guards and the reflector bowls. the undamged hid that i have doesnt have the sticker either. bottom side ballast sounds good, but i havent looked at the bottom of a halogen to verify. thanks for tips, im getting educated..

Halogen lights don't have ballasts. A ballast is a dead giveaway it's HID.

Yes, in one of the pictures of the back you can see the letters HID written.
there you go, at least that post is a little bit funny. keep it up and you might get an lol or a plus 1

It is not HID, as mentioned previously all the housings are the same. The only difference in the HIDs and halogen headlights are reflector lenses and the addition of a ballast. Everything cosmetically is the same. All Gen. II Lincoln LS housings will say HID on the back of them whether they are HID or not.

The empty looking space in the last picture is where the ballast mounts up. then a cover placed over it.

got all the parts to pass inspection with exception of R fender. still shopping for that, let me know if youre looking to unload one (black only, no pinstripes).
pulled the frame dent about 90% of the way out, the last 10% is a b*tch tho, especially for a guy in a wheelchair for the time being. might have to pay someone to line that up so taillight and bumper bolt in.
below are pics of the 05 bumper donor, a burn victim!

negative on the cause of the fire. the yard man had to climb through all that to pull the trunk release in the trunk. fire appeared to be confined to the cabin. unfortunately it burned up everything else i would have wanted from it.

That's not HID. The bulb guard (the piece of shiny plastic in the middle of the housing covering the end of the bulb) is smooth and round. An HID light has an angular looking guard. Looks like a funky diamond cut. See the HID headlight in this thread: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=47786

The bulb guard is angular, not round and smooth.

There is also no ballast on the bottom of it. There would be a plastic cover if there were. The actual outer housing is universal. The difference is a cover on the bottom, some holes, the reflector, bulb guard, ballast, and the wiring connector has an extra tab or lack thereof.

If you look, where you see HID D2R, you will see TH H11. The HID means it gets a ballast and D2R is the bulb type. Not sure what TH means but H11 is the Halogen bulb type. That's the two low-beam bulbs used in the LS. Either the HID D2R or Halogen H11.

Anyways, that's a regular halogen housing.
