This is what I did to correct the issue with my fathers 97 Mark VIII. Of course like everyone else, one of the headlights went out so I went ahead and decided to fix it before the other one fails also. I currently own a 95 Mark VIII and just performed the detailed HID install that 93' Blue on blue wrote up. I have been unable to locate a good write up so here is my go at it. If one has any comments in making it better, please let me know.

~ Also, I will not take full credit. All I have done is gathered information and knowledge that was located here with in LVC from other users.

The kit is the same we are using on the Gen 1 Mark VIII Halogen to HID upgrade. The seller can be found on ebay, seller name japanimportshop. His shipping is super fast, both kits I have ordered where on my door step within 3 days of purchasing. Which ever kit you plan to use, make sure you note that is should be of the following bulb type "9005"!

First, i used 3 total neoprene rubber flat washer's (purchased from The Home Depot).
1. 1-1/2" - Cut out the center of the first washer to fit around the front side of the bulb after the o-ring (about 1/2" dia)
2. 1-1/2" - Cut out the second washer to fit around the back side of the bulb (this will be an oval shape)
3. 7/16" 1" - This washer will follow behind washer #2.

- :slam I will have a template and will post soon of the plate i constructed, first using cardboard then tracing it on to Lexan Polycarbonate Sheet and cutting my final plates with a dremel. I cut about a an 1/2" hole using a unibit for the back side of the bulb and wires to poke through. Drilled the 3 holes out with an 1/8" bit.

Cut tabs off the leveler for a flush fit

I forgot to take a final pic of the light assembly with everything attached. I will remove and later post pics. Once you take the bulb assembly and install it into the housing, place the leveler bracket on and reuse the factory screws you removed earlier. The third screw towards the bottom I used a Sealed Washer Bonded #10 4 B (Steel/Galvanized)

On the kit; cut off these connectors (Circled in red)

Heat Shrink Butt Connectors picked up at Advanced Auto-parts

Cut off the wires connected to the factory ballast, cut up close to the ballast as for you will need that length for you final connection later on(you should have about 12"). Now have these cables from the factory wiring and connect them to the kit harness to that of you cut off (Connect color for color; that is black to black and red to red)

- If you have a torch, it make this much easier

For the location of the ballast i was able to use a factory bolt and with nothing to interfere with having to relocate anything.

good write up i done this about ten times its so easy to put aftermarket hid kits in the 2nd gens all you need is a piece of plastic or something to hold it in place

plastic piece

would be nice if someone made up a small kit to go with the hid kit. you know with the lexan plastic already cut out and the rubber washers all ready set. hexk i would even pay 20.00 for a kit like that.

Good pics!

Yeah, that japanimportshop does seem to be a bit expensive, these days.

looks good im just glad my stock bulbs are still going

unless your like the rest of us who didnt really plan that there bulbs going out after 3-6 months we need to fix this asap

Save yourself over $20.00 for the same kit.

The reason I went with japanimportshop is because they seem to be the only name in other threads here on LVC for there reputation and quality. I am happy with them and suppose that's really all that matters. They look great in the 95 & 97 and are now both the same socket size, so replacement will be easier to come by.

thats whats up you mentioned that u forgot to take a picture of the finished headlight before you finished install did you ever take that picture or csn u send me a PM

Addtional pictures

Still need to scan the template and import it into CAD but to busy at the moment with other projects, will try to get to that later next week. Here are some pictures as promised of the finished project; some are blurry because of the flash but you should get the idea.

*Note, I have the housing pulled out a couple of inch's here.

Later I will also get some night shots of the lights and post for reference.

another nice cheap way to convert the gen 2 i used 2 in fender washers drilled out the holes cut a very small notch in inside of washer stuck bulb in with the plastic washers that came with conversion kit and washer on outside screwed back in bolts and sealed with silicone on outside of housing did this about a year ago i think and no problems since then ! cost me $80 for the conversion kit and $2 for both the washers and $3 for a tube of silicone $ 85 is a hell of a lot cheaper and works just as great as anything else out there that i could find and if anyone needs the fender washers i can drill out some more i think $5 a set is a fair price if you want some pm me
