is anybody running steeper gears with stock driveshaft? im getting a 93 found one cheap, butv was wondering how many changed the rear and not driveshaft?

im running a 93 with 4:10s also and no vibration at 110 but thats as high as its been able to go since i got it back

chris, your sig pic is great. im gonna get a 93 shaft, i found one, anyone who drives like i do needs it anyways, but i used to drive around at 90-100 (around 3000 rpm) and never had vibration probs.

It's funny you bring that up. I have a 93 Mark VIII shaft in my Bird, and it vibrates above 80-85. With the stock driveshaft, it was smooth up to the speed limiter I figure I'll just get another one, have it balanced, then swap them out.

have you tried clocking it? rotating the driveshaft where it bolts to the differential. sometimes that cuts down on vibrations.

and my driveshaft does vibrate around 100 mph. not below 95, not above 105. but in between, its pretty bad. i rarely go that fast so i don't worry about it. fine up to 80.

No, every time I get 'er on a lift, I forget to do that...

Was gonna put a 93 shaft in mine this past sunday while swapping the rear end out.I just put a 97 LSC rear in mine(94),not a big jump in gears but it is noticeable and does pull harder and barely have to give it gas to stay at speed.Well worth the $65 bucks. When taking the rear gas tank bolts out they started to feel like they would break. Are the gas tank bolts still available?. Getting the driveshaft "HIGH SPEED BALANCED" sounds like a good idea.

Paid $30 for the shaft $65 for the rear end..gotta love Pick n pull :D

my main reason is just strength not vibration. i dont want to be going down the 1/4 and shift into 2nd at WOT and have the shaft snap.i drive like that light to light anyways. i just feel more comfy with a solid piece i have an idea why they did it, for smoother shifts because i forgot how a stock viii shifts since i had it tuned, when they rebuilt my tranny a few months ago they did the shift kit and it went into gear quicker but it was still soft and smooth until i increased the line pressure then it was neck snapping with the stock 3.27's.

ive got 3.73s with the stock 95 shaft and it rides smooth as can be at 125

Yeh, like I said mine was smooth as silk too with the stock shaft - I'm thinking that's why they put the rubber isolator in the shaft in the first place! :shifty:

Talking to my drive line shop thay have seen the rubber isolators fail so the one shaft would just spin in the other but they were not sure if the mark shaft was built the same.

They look the same as the Bird/Coug drivershafts except they are aluminum instead of steel (except the 1993 ones, of course).

Yes. The 2-piece design did have a rubber isolator. Once it fails, I'm sure a driveline shop would have a hell of a time trying to balance it.
