Gear oil change question.

Maybe that came out wrong. You can bet your ass that if there is something wrong with my car, I am going to be extra careful and make sure I use quality parts to fix it. I would never half ass something on my own car, but I would never half ass a customer's car either. But, and maybe I am wrong, but you work on cars for a living, do you get excited when your car breaks and you need to fix it? Sure, if you were in sales or something, you might look forward to a brake job or anything else. But would you do extra stuff when you KNEW it wasnt necessary. And I don't mean attention to detail type stuff, like painting or cleaning parts, or looming wires, that is a given if you are able to do it, and it adds that extra touch. But I truly treat everyones car like they are my own, and I keep a clear conscience for that. I even on a pretty regular basis do extra work on customers cars, just to hopefully make them leave the "stealership" with a smile on their face. SVO I have the world of respect for members like you and other "car guys" on this site, I am not trying to ass kiss, I always have the best intentions, regardless if it doesn't come out that way.

Oh no, it didn't come out wrong at all I completely understand.

I use the highest quality parts in our own personal fleet as I would in my customers vehicle, and all vehicles, customers and ours included get the highest care when being worked on.

It just blows when after working on everyones vehicle all week one of ours needs service, I really can't to excited about going out there and working for the fact that I'm not technically getting paid, but the reward is that our vehicles do work and are dependable though.

Like I say I completely understand, you know I just can't get excited about putting a lightwiehgt flywheel and dual clutch set-up in my wife's Cobra R clone, but when it's done it a piece of mind to know that's it'll hold up and hopefully be able to wring 180k miles out of like we got out of this clutch.

Ya... Even when I am slow at work and I have the opportunity to work on my car its a little better. Like when a few weeks ago when my P/S pump went out. I didnt have pay work to do, but I figured in the meantime I fixed my own car. So, I may not have made money, but I didnt spend any to fix my own car either. Its a nice peice of mind knowing you can fix your own stuff. You figure it could have cost the average joe their entire weeks paycheck, and I didnt have to pay anything.

i really dont give two sweet :q:q:q:qs what podium people put me on or what anyone thinks of me good or bad, just like dan said when all you do is :q:q:q:q for all the other people who cry for help in your ear everyday the last thing i feel like doing is working on my own :q:q:q:q. i spent 5 hours on my brakes tonight, thats after a full day of work in 100 degree sun, i break my balls day in and day out, i sweat like a :q:q:q:qing pig, i go all day without eating because of the heat, then i am gonna go in my shop after all this :q:q:q:q and play mr. 100 % inspect every inch. :q:q:q:q that, as a matter of fact, i'm not even gonna touch the rear end, i'm gonna drive to the keys and back with the old :q:q:q:q in it. now i have to replace the upper control arms because someone put some :q:q:q:qing chinese O.E brand in it and they are smoked. so pretend i didnt make a post about the gear oil cuz as far as i am concernd :q:q:q:q the gear oil. i beg any one of you to step into my shoes for one day at my job and lets see if you have the energy to work on your car after work, i garauntee we would weed out the boys from the men real fast.

and yes, i am pissed off.

move to WI not nearly as many 100 deg days:D jk i can't even imagine, i work only 8 hours on first shift and most days i have no ambition to do that, and from my understandings thats on your dd, that would blow to start it and not be able to finish it over something stupid like not enough oil or a gasket, then your stuck riding your wal-mart mongoose 5 miles on a flat tires and bent handle bars to go to the local auto parts store to order the part and then wait two days for it to come in then do the same ride in the rain.

EDIT: oops kinda got off the subject on that one

That heat is bull :q:q:q:q! I've been there, I would be out in it from noon till 6pm or so in the body shop it sucks big time, anybody who says it doesn't has never lived or worked it that kind of heat and humidity. I will say my dad worked from 6am until 10-12 at night everyday down there until we left and he's just over 60, it takes a lot to do hard work there.

its brutal i cant stand it i want to go back to massachusetts but i cant, i am stuck here, at least for a few more years. i really do want to go back home though i'd rather suffer in the snow for 6 months than to die in the heat for 6 months. i can take heat, its the humidity that kicks my ass.

Wheres the popcorn?
Sounds like Jamie might be pulling a camel soon :bash:  j/k ;)

Humidity sucks here at times to as we are right on Lake Ontario. :(

:wrench

lake ontario hell lol! i'll take that humidy over the tropics anyday!! if i take a hammer out i will make sure its on someone else's car not my own!

Humidity is humidity... Still drips off the walls and still makes it feel like it's 45+*C and a real pita to work in... ;)

:q:q:q:q You Jamie... I'm working on moving back down to FL. If I get down there and you leave I'm gonna punch you right in the dick!

Wait till you hit 40.....then 45......then....it gets far worse as far as humidity toleration goes....:)

and yes, i am pissed off.

For as many years as I have been driving, licenced and not when I was younger, I never once EVER thought about checking gear oil before I journeyed home with a new used vehicle.

Well, let me tell you that will never happen again, I bought a F350, and was bringing it home and got 25 miles down the road, on I-35, one of the most busiest hwy's and had this happen to me at 70mph, now remember, when the drum is no longer in contact with the shoes, there are NO brakes:

You gotta love full floating axles, but only when thier full of fluid, note the dry bearing and axle housing, the bearing siezed on the axle housing/hub assy causing it to shear off and depart from the truck, the housing is wasted, this is a complete rear axle replacement because of this ($650 plus, used).

Correct fluid amount as you can see can be crittical to the parts you trust, it made two squeeks and then let go, no other warnings, and as you can tell by the sky, shortly after the pictures the sky opened up and dumped tons of rain.
