I bought 2 brand new in the box Flowmaster 40's today off eBay for right at $115.00 to the door. Did I get a pretty good deal? Everywhere I looked for them, they were running around $85 to $100 each but I lucked up on these two, I hope I did anyway. They are 2 1/4 in and out. Still not sure yet if I'm going to put two X pipes in or just one. Thinking of putting in one for now and giving the mufflers some burn in time and then see how the drone is inside. I can always jack it up in the garage and cut the pipes and add another if needed.

The ad stated this:

For sale are 2 Flowmaster 40 series street mufflers. Both mufflers are brand new, never been used, was going to put them on my 84 chevy but ended up selling it before I installed them. The Flowmaster part number is # 42441 for both mufflers. They are 2 1/4" inlet and outlet, the inlet is offset and the outlet is in the center. Both mufflers were $165 brand new, and they are still brand new, I just don't have any use for them.

Wrong inlet configuration but if you can weld then thats no problem.
I like the way Flows sond on 4V Fords, very muscle carish. All 4 of my Cobras had them.... I take that back. One had SLP LM series and I hated them. Sounded like a really big rice burner.
Long tubes, O/R x-pipe and SLP LMs are just obnoxiously loud, couldnt even hear the blower. :(

lmao hey terry hope you are ready for this sound....

those were 40's and they stayed on my 98 for about 6 hours before i cut them off, they have been sitting in my buddies garage ever since, they sound like dog s--t

Jamie, did you have an X on yours? Please say no because I don't want that raspy ass sound. Not that an X is going to make much of a difference. Maybe the 40's you had were chambered differently than what I have coming. All I can do is give them a try.

I kinda like this sound but it's so hard to really tell with videos and hearing it on laptop speakers. Yes Laser, I noticed the inlet part and it's not going to be a problem at all. Have everything in the garage and 3 different ways of cutting things off if something goes wrong. I might just end up going with a single X and no mufflers with the 97 tips. I don't have mufflers on it now and it don't sound half bad but I want that 3rd cat off and the res too. I can always sell the Flowmasters back on ebay and get most, if not all of the money back. Both to the door were $112.55. I'll take a $20 loss just for the experience.

I was going to put Flow master 40 series on my first mark, but when the exhaust shop cut the mufflers and fired it up for my I fell in love. I ran without mufflers for about 3 years. The best part is I didnt have to pay for the mufflers lol.

I'm seriously thinking about selling them before I even tack weld them on to test out. I like the sound I have too without mufflers but I do want the 3rd cat and resonator off and put an X or two in and then the 97 tips. Like I said before, there isn't any emissions inspections here, so it would be fine and I know I already like how it sounds. Might be better with being equalized with the X's put on. We'll see.

My understanding is with an x-pipe and no mufflers that the car drones like crazy and is very very loud.
With a chambered muffler an h-pipe would give the deepest tone. IDK how a doule x would sond but might be cool sounding too.

FYI: nolimit, I have Klipsch THX speakers on my PC and that clip you posted sounds killer! Nice and deep tone with no raspiness. Sounds identidcal to how my 96 Cobra sounded with an O/R h-pipe and Flowmaster 40's

I went to one of the other PC's I have that has a Boston Acoustic setup and listened to the clip and it does sound like what I'm after. Anyone wondering why I want the 97 tips on is because I don't like the looks of pipes sticking out the back. Trying to keep it looking low profile as possible but want the deep sound.

Also like the bullet sound too. If these don't sound good, even if I put them on, I'll just sell them back on ebay for $115.00 and free shipping. Or again, I would sell them for $20 less if I tack weld them on just to hear them for 5 min. I just want it to be a deep sound without all the crackly, raspy, popping sound. I did hear a bullet clip and it did sound pretty good. I would like to find a true Cobra X and start it right at the beginning and then maybe a foot or two down, add another X there instead of double X's flowing one after the other. Just have to experiment I guess.

i had bullets on my 97 lsc, my blue 93, and my 98 lsc and i will put them on my white 95 too, i love the bullets. i'm doing exhaust on my truck too but i think i may go magnaflow on that, the 6 liters just sound sick with magnaflows.

Ive got maganflows on both my marks. Love them. If I want to be loud ill just got on the Buell.

Most likely what I'll be doing when I put my kooks on!

I'm still impressed how great it sounds with just the muffler cut off though!

i had flow 40's on my 93 gen 1, sounded good on that.

on lsc models with dual exhaust...removing cats, adding x pipes, and no mufflers or bad muffler choice will make it sound like a honda civic with a fart pipe but twice as worse since we have v8's.

When i get some kooks i'll probably add a magnaflow center muffler and straights out the back. Seems like that will work best and not be as raspy.

Got them in today and they were still stapled in the box with the huge gold staples. I expected them to at least be opened. 2 different X-Pipes coming next.

Kooks + magnaflow + Xpipe = the worst sound ever at WOT. Thay are okay at idle. Im going back to the single mid mounted 40 series flowmasters. I will sell you the magnaflows if ya want em. I also tried SLP LM 1s they sound like crap at WOT too.

They will sound terrible. NEVER use chambered mufflers if you plan to run them on a rear muffler car.

Mid mount x magnaflow is where its at. Maybe with an added x.

I'm still running on a muffler delete. The Flowmasters are in my closet along with one X so far. Been doing some painting on the car and got my mind off the exhaust and still not sure what I'll be doing yet. Sounds good like it is to be honest. Might find a Mustang owner that wants them and sell. I'll get around to it after the 98 tranny swap.

I'm running 2 X-Pipes with no mufflers on my 98 and I think it's ok...everyone likes it but i'll be adding some MAC FlowPaths soon down the road

Now I'm talked into selling them lol. I'm gonna try 2 X pipes and then finish it off with the 97 tips I have. I can always add mufflers the same day if needed. If it sounds anything like the muffler delete I have now, I'll leave it. I do not want raspy. To me, that sounds like sh:shifty:t. I just want a nice dual sound with some deepness to it.

IMO flowmaster or magnaflow rear mounted muffler sounds like crap on these cars. The only rear mounted muff that sounds good is Genos. I have had good results in the past with 2 in 2 out mid mounted flowmasters. I have spent too much money on exhaust not to know. Also magnaflows might sound good with a stock set-up but not with kooks and bassani race cats!
