Fed Ex brought gifts this morning..

And he's building it for the future. Gotta start somewhere. If he built up the motor, someone would say something about the rear. Can't win on the internet unless you do everything at once.

Because a stock mark can still twist stuff!!!!

My brother's 98 has gone 10.6's on a stock rear end [4.10 gear and $40 mustang track lock] no braces , stock 90K mile bushings. If a car that is pulling low 1.5's in 60' didn't twist one then I don't see a stock mark twisting stuff.

4.10 gear and driveshaft is a nice upgrade but girdle and true-track is an overkill ,waste of money. For the $$ spent on these 2 parts , he could have a nice TC and a tune.

Not my $$ so whatever owner of the car does that's all up to him, I'm just trowing my opinion out there.

Anything can happen and all cars are different. I blew up the 8.8 in my 87 with only 286 to the wheels with street tires.

If there is anything I've learned in racing over the years....power means nothing unless you get it to the pavement. When it comes to building up a tranny / rear end there is no such thing as overkill!

Nice choices Lux! That's exactly the direction I'm hoping to head soon...

Thanks Tommy and camel.

I bought this car for one reason..to mod it. With that in mind it's still my daily driver and I plan on daily driving it for a few years while I'm getting the engine and all built, take it off the road, build it and buy something else to dd.

As far as teh truetrac being a waste, that's ridiculous. I could of went cheap but I don't want used parts in my car. A new TL is around 300. The rebuild kit (not including labor) is over 100. The new truetrac is 450 so we are talking less then a 100 dollars for something built MUCH better. I would have bought a stall if I didn't just spend 500 on a driveshaft. All in due time.

I went 4.10s since I will have forced induction and I want to maintain good streetability and that seemed as the best choice.

I powdercoatrd it because I could, I don't just want it to go fast I want it to look good too. I've got alot of plans and know where I'm going with it. So When it's done it'll make more sense.

It's a Nice car and I'm just doing a little here and a little there whenever I can and my budget allows.

The girdle is extra insurance. Can't hurt. Just because it might not twist doesn't mean it won't. I have a tuner (sniper) which as soon as I have some free time I'll be swapping out for an sct.

I spent over almost a year and a half LOOKING for my 97. I looked at sooo many cars befor buying this one that an old man owned, passed away and left to his son. I'm patient and honestly I don't expect to be finished for over 10 years and I'm fine with that. This isn't my first Lincoln I've owned 8 or more, vii's and viii's. I worked on my 5 speed mark vii for 3 years, poured my heart and soul into that car to dismantle the whole thing am part it out to buy this one and build it...and not a day goes by that I couldn't be happier with my decision.:)

Lux I really like your car and the mods you are doing. I have similar mods and plans AND similar mods on the way. Great minds and all that. :D
It will be a couple years before mine is done too and it may or may not include forged internals with C heads and a twin screw. We will see which way the wind blows. I do know before it gets blown that I will get a similar cover. Would you mind sharing where you got it from and cost? Also I cant seem to find pics of your Mark on my hard drive. :( How about sharing some. :D

Thanks man. eBay for 209 shipped. Contol freak makes one that is 250. Google "blacklsc photobucket" ...go to the main page and you can see all my albums.. Tell me what u think ;)

yeh I'm gonna do forged internals, blower, and a better trans. Almost wish I got a 98 but very happy I found a 97 even if the trans isn't as good (dunno either mine had all teh updated accumulators 'shrug') but it has tr DARK black "ebony" interior which I love.

wait till you boys see what I have planned for the outside..it is truly going to be one of a kind.

Hahahaha.. just imagine a cross between stacks murdermark, the guy that did the grand am front bumper but different and a gtc mark vii...

Yummy

There's more then one person that keeps tabs on me via the internet.

Is it safe?

Well, naturally, the install took forever, as Lux's half-shafts were rusted trash.

The exposed end of each shaft was rusted so badly that the threads were gone.

One shaft was rusted solid to the hub. Ruined my three-jaw puller, tried the 20 ton press, but no go. After some serious (ripped?!) work with a sledge hammer. Lux finally got it out, but both the half-shaft and the hub/knuckle were trashed.

Luckily, I had an extra shaft and knuckle, and we finally finished, and I sent Lux on his way.

Now why does that not surprise me?

Yup, someone else who was fortunate that I had extra parts in stock. :D

I had to remove one of his LCA's, and the bolts came right off, so it wasn't quite as rusty as other cars I've worked on. ;)

Every cars different though. You could see a stock mark break something a 12 second mark didn't. Kinda like those freak situations. Traction loss is a major issue for these axles especially wheel hop.
