I'm sure you're going to want to check it. But no, it's not always required.
 
On my 04, it was required.
Anytime you lower a car, the front end needs re-alignment.
Mine was only off in fractions of degrees, but those fractions probably meant the difference of 10-20K miles on the tires!

My local Firestone did a great job, and restored my specs to factory tolerances, and for a little extra, they will get you a lifetime alignemnt...never pay for it again!
 
ok but how much generally does the install cost with alignment??? my shop tells me 500
 
you will need to get it done on this car. my 94 tbird was okay without it, but i just had to buy 4 new tires because i wore out the insides so bad. It only took about 6 months to do it too.
there is supposedly no spec for rear camber. I have 2.1 degrees on both sides, hence the insides going. I'm guessing I want around 1.2-1.5 max for good handling without wearing out the indsides?
 
It cost me $60 for an alignment at my local firestone, and about 2-3 hours to swap out the spring with a friend.

That depends. You will be running -1º on all 4 corners. The front can be adjusted (you'll probably need the camber bolts, ~$100) but the rear can not. If you rotate your tires every 3-5K miles you should be fine. Before my daughter started driving my car and I put the original springs back on, I had the Springtech springs installed. I did get the front aligned with the bolts (they are longer than the factory ones) and strangely enough wore out the center tread on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ses after ~12K miles. The edges still looked fine.

so what happens if you have directional tires and can't do a true rotation due to the direction of travel of the tread? you can only go front to back. seems like the tread will be fried in no time flat unless you actually change the tires on the wheels themselves.

The Pilot's are directional. Like I said, I wore out the centers and the edges were fine. Well, they did have a little feathering from my cornering speeds.....
 
Ya i get all that i will get the alignment but what is a fair price for the alignment and install of springs ??/ i was quoted 500. i paid 255 for springs so im looking at 755 is that a fair price???
 
I don't think so. 300 seems more correct for installation with alignment. It can't take more than a few hours for a shop with proper tools and a lift.
 
THATS what i was thinkng.. i think they figure since i have a nice car that i can afford it.. Dam commies lol. Hey pete do u know if this could void warranty?
 
Only for suspension related problems I would think. I've had my car in for valve cover gaskets/coils and never had a problem.
 
would suspension parts wear faster with car lowered ./// like ball joints and such
 
I would imagine there would be more stress on them, but I'm not sure. I know the Eibach Camber kit is trash for the LS.
 
Ford is actually cheaper than everywhere else i have called. 330 total. but then they would have a record of me installing aftermarket springs. So i think that ill pay the exra 170 so if something real expensive goes bad then i can swap them back and get itfixed under warranty. im not sure how profitable it would be. what do u guys think
 
If it will save money overall then why not? I don't think there is an ethical dilemma if something that should be covered under warranty breaks that is not suspension related.
 
I think he was referring to the 1000 overall cost just to squeeze something in under warranty. Don't know if that'd really be cost effective.
