I did a search but could not seem to find anything on the subject of fixing one. I don't mean replace it, I mean fix it somehow?

It was fine and I didn't force anything, just went to open it one day and the chrome button was broken. So was wondering if anyone had taken the assembly apart and fixed one yet?

What broke? Just the button? That's a simple fix if you have the button assy. When you open the cupholder, you will see two round black caps that hide two phillips screws. These screws hold the leather pad on. remove the pad and you can get to the assy. If you need the assy, you can PM me or call me : 732-794-7500. Hope this helps.

Well that is quite a bit of relief.

I will try to pull it out tomorrow when it is daylight out. Pulling the engine outta my WRX at the same time so I hope I get to it so I can get it fixed?

close the cupholder door and never open it again

worst design and placement ever

But wait, it is closed and it broke but I want it to function normal or I will use the new piece to make an Aluminum copy or something to that extent

x2. Thats what I need. It was the only way to keep a non broken cup holder, well...non broken.

I've had Mark VIII's for 8 years (all Gen 2's) and have never broken a cupholder that entire time. I use them all the time, and frequently leave them open accidentally. I don't tip-toe around using them or leave them closed up. I bought my Mark VIII's cuz they're awesome and have awesome features. I'm gonna use them.

That being said, I've fixed many cupholder assemblies. I've got more than 10 of them in my garage in various states of condition, broken and whole. I usually buy every one that I see in the junkyard whether they're broken or not, that way I've got parts to fix the other ones.

If it turns out that My Great 8 somehow doesn't have the part you need or that it's something else that's broken, let me know. I'm quite sure I've got what you need. Could you post of picture of how it looks right now? Sometimes they can break where they hinge and the opening spring will cause it to cock in the assembly and not open. Just throwing that out. Please post a picture.

Also, if anyone else needs parts or possibly wants to send me theirs to fix, let me know. I've sold a bunch of the little arms and have fixed one that was sent to me VERY broken (ask Mark0101 on here about that).

i will say that i use my cup holder in my 97 daily, every morning i put a coffee in it. i will agree with 98linc i have never broken one of mine either in any of my gen II's and i dont tip toe around them either, but, i will never disagree with anyone who says its the :q:q:q:qtiest design ever, it truely is a total halfass design for a cup holder how they actually thought two little tiny fragile as egg shell wings would hold any drink without breaking is nuts, i think the biggest way to snap one is if the cup holder is left open and someone gets into the back seat, when the front seat is pushed back in the upright position it can easily snap the wing off. its a horrible design, in an even more horrible location unless you have arms like a T-Rex.

As I am a bit lazy and will be paying for it when it gets nice and cold out I didn't do crap today. My friend claims he has to help his parents instead of coming over and helping me yank the engine outta the WRX.

Then I got the post asking to see what broke and also got a new center cap, so took a pic of console while I was out putting the cap on.

Like I said it closed all normal and when I went to open it the button just fell off

I finally transferred the title and put plates on my Mark last wednesday and have been driving around in it like crazy, love this car! However I have no cupholder in mine at all. If anyone has parts for sale, or any ideas to customize a whole new cup holder, im open to ideas... (at least you have a closed door so its not a gaping hole in the counsole)

Can't tell if that's ebony or midnight black...you have a 97 or a 98? You'd have to beg A LOT for me to sell any of my midnight black pieces, and I can't remember if I've got any in ebony. I've got lots of prairie tan, though. When I bought my 97, it was much like yours(nitvid), so I found a grey one in the junkyard and painted with rustoleum spray paint and it looks perfect. I could fix up a tan one for you and paint it if you'd like. Let me know through PM if that's something you'd like to do.

Well I have had the part for a lil while but it was finally warm enough for me to go out and install it. This basically what was the deal, simple enough to fix.
