Custom Exhaust options?

OK The one thing I hate about my car is the exhaust. The horrible welds, the sound, the crappy XX pipe thing, the muffler tips, and how loud it is. Yes I know I have headers and I know they're louder than stock, but I think 80% of the noise is coming from the IDIOT that welded and mounted the exhaust, all metal to metal mounts to the underbody, no rubber isolators. I used (what I thought) was a trusted shop that had did some work for me in the past. But they had a new guy do all the work and it came out horrible. I left in a fit of RAGE and they are now strictly custom race car fab shop.

Here are my requirements

TIG welded .... I want nice quality welds
Isolated from the body .... all the mount points must have rubber isolators
Mandel bent Stainless 2.5" tubes
Polished mufflers
Some kind of resonator in the middle (I dont know if I like the double x stuff)
full CATS with two narrow band and a Wide band o2's
Flanged so I can have a mid back.


So what are my options?
 
I'd probably get 2 magnaflow cats, a magnaflow x muffler, and some muffler at the back of the car... it's gonna be hard to quiet the beast down...
 
I started the car with it disconnected from the body just sitting on some coffee cans and it was a WORLD of difference. I cant have a conversation with my chick in the car becuase the exhaust is so loud. With the garage half open and the exhaust hanging she and I both think its a little louder than stock but acceptable, with the exhaust on, she doesn't want to ride, its to loud in the car.

Yep, he stated that is his personal work.

The guy is particular, which I respect about him. I would let him work on my car.

I did the work myself. And my exhaust, even with the stainless steel Kook's headers, is quiet enough during normal driving that my 76 yr. old mother liked the way it sounded when I picked her up at the airport. ;)

But, stomp on it, and it's sweet. :cool:

I spent about a grand in materials and about $800 to get it TIG welded. I only have a MIG, so I tacked it together and then had an ex-NASA welder TIG it.

The drive sounds MEH to most people, but good mandrel work? Is HARD to find, I tell ya! Try to find it in Houston without paying a custom shop out the butt! Regular exhaust shops don't do it, at least last I checked. I networked and called everywhere and still couldn't find a place that was reasonable. We're talking they wanted like 4 grand minimum. Alot of gas for that, as long as the price is right. I'd check with him if I were you. Or just pony up the patience to take it on yourself.

Wow they even offer stainless, at a reasonable price.

I'm thinking when I finally found a price in H town the shop just didn't want to touch it. I would've found a means, but it wasn't high on my priority list and I must have got busy with something else. That price makes it look really reasonable.
 
My Buddy Bryan did my exhaust. Best custom SS mandrel work I have seen on a Mark, and I am not just saying that because it is on my car lol. :) His work speaks for itself. He works out of a shop here in GA.

Yea, I can see where you made the adjustments around the diff, not bad for the price, but yea not bolt on. Good looking. I used to have that Magnaflow DI/DO muff on my Thunderbird, best sound for dollars I think. Nice Mark BTW.:)
 
i have kooks headers also, with 2 high flow magnaflow cats, a bassani X and 2.5 mandrel bent pipes into magnaflow mufflers. mine is quiet at idle and cruising normally, like DLF if driving normally you can tell it has exhaust, but nearly no drone inside, but if you get on it, WOW lol instant boner!! soon as i get it on the lift i'll take pics.
 
Hmmm. Maybe I should box my exhaust up, and sell it for $2,500, and make another. :rolleyes:

Sounds like all you really have to do is replace the hangers, which isn't a very hard job.

HA I have no hangers, they cut off everything. I have the metal bar that goes across the center of the car and the rear mufflers have c-clamps that are welded to 10" rods that are welded to the car.

That doesn't take care of the Chit welds and holes.

Wow, I'd have killed someone that welded to my car.... :eek:
