A while back there was a thread about the possibility of high performance coils for our LS's. It also covered the potential for the MSD Stacker on the LS. I was unable to locate the thread and was wondering if anyone had tried the MSD system yet?:)

The thought has crossed my mind, but I don't remember any talk of it ever. You would think some of the performance aftermarket coil on plug stuff would possibly work.

Wow, no other opinions.

Well, the only thing I have found is the MSD Stacker, but I have found no one who has actually tried it out on their LS. Granetelli list a COP unit for Mustangs @ $540+ for a set of eight, but again I don't know if they can be installed on the LS. Not much available for the LS in the ignition department.

Well I'm really going back in memory now but, didn't someone make like a plasma upgrade for coil on plug Mustangs. I'm not familiar with the stacker you refer to. I'm guessing no one has tried any type of upgrade as far as the ingnition goes based on that it wouldn't be much of a improvement. With as little stuff we can do to increase hp, we should be exploring all possibilities.

Actually, I have heard the COP are pretty good as is. I was looking at something to that effect for my SHO. I know they pack pretty good wallop, I seen some nasty looking plugs with over 50k and big gaps, and car ran fine.

Of course I am not runing NOS.. either, so I stopped researching it. :D

IMHO; I think the stock ignition is fine until you start adding power adders.. and even then I bet those coils could handle 100 shot or blower nicely.

My 2 cents :D

reading through the service manual our ignition system already uses a multiple spark strategy so maybe the benefits of aftermarket are reduced? dunno.

Do some homework on the Granatelli units. I'm hearing that you need so space the coil covers on the Cobras to use them. But that information is heresay and not from personal experience...thus the advice to look into it before you buy.

Agree! With our cars you have to be very careful before investing too much without knowing for sure about fit and applicability.

Like to revive this thread to see if there have been any new developments for HP coils on our cars.:)

MSD did launch their new HO coil for the 4.6L - but that is it. I called them and they 'do not anticipate' making coils for anything else at this time...

i purchased the GMS Coil Packs for a mustang and installed them on my car, about 4 months ago..and i have yet to have a problem

I am very interested in this. Did you have to modify anything to get them to fit under the coil covers? Any wiring modificatioons needed?

well im going back and forth with JES_LS and GMS on being a guinea pig for these COP's. as soon as they give the go-ahead i will have them in and we can post how it goes. i'm thinking soon as far as time-frame goes

Yup, and I hope that you got the mail from Curt. He obviously wants to get moving with it.

yeah he sent me the email and i gave him my number and told him the sooner the better. he said they would do all 8 and would let me keep them, so that's something positive and it will only take half a day. all my spark plugs are done so i hope after the COP's get done that part of my engine will be in great shape.

I don't know if you CC'd me on the email, but if I have not seen it come in yet.
I squirted a heads-up to Curt to make sure that he gets it.
Since I did not bulldog the process before and we dropped the ball, this time I'm going to check everything and stay on top of it all.

here is a pic of how i have them installed. The Coils are to tall for the covers to fit, but im sure u could find a way to cover them if needed.

I would cover those coils, if some debris's or water gets in there it could hurt the engine. I remember someone who had the same coils and used the old coil cover and cut the top half off, then took some silicone and built up the sides so it would be taller and be able to fit over the covers.

The only reason i dont cover mine is because i dont drive it much. This is not my everyday driver so i dont drive it in bad weather. But i do see ur point in covering them.

Dang it, no sooner do I post 'hang in there gang, the cop are coming' then my own car finally has one completely let go, #5 coil is down for the count this morning.
