Catastrophic engine failure???

Well eitherway it ain't gonna be a simple fix if that's the case..so let the teardown begin..pull the motor and take stuff apart and take pics while doing it to show the carnage, and figure out what caused it to fail.

That sucks...pulled started for nothing...well maybe not nothing..starter had to be removed for the engine replacement you are gonna have to do. Best advice and usually cheapest find good quality used engine install and carry on

I know these engines are flawless but i have a 2007 impala lt with 244 thousand on the clock original engine and still ticking.

These engines have flaws. Quite a few actually. Crap oil pump gears, crap timing chain followers, crap port velocity, hot spots on #7&8 cause of poor (cheap) cooling design, finiky knock sensors... etc etc. Still one of my all time favorite American motors though.

As for Impallas they can last but most dont. Most with the 4 banger are lucky to last 120k.

I take that back, the Teksid block 4.6 is my favorite engine with forged internals and C heads. With good internals they can make 2000hp all day long for cheaper than an LS. Granted its cheaper to make 600hp on an LS based motor but the costs skyrocket when you wanna push past 1000.
With a 4.6 if you get any forged rotating assembly you can pretty much throw as much boost as you want at it with a large enough fuel system.

Time to pull the engine.

Last time i came across this it was a dropped rod. Cap fell off and it locked the engine solid. Almost one complete revolution the other way and hard stop.

Next...

I'm guessing on the dropped rod, myself. Unfortunately, the trannie also needs overhauling - it's been clutch shuddering for like five years now. And the body has some serious corrosion issues. So, this Lincoln has breathed its last, most likely.

For my own curiousity and education, and for your benefit, I will do a tear down and photograph what I find. But don't expect results fast as I have several other projects in the works.

I see a '98 on Craigslist with airbag issues for 2K, so I may swap over my Eibachs and Konis from this car to that one. We shall see. Thanks guys for the advice and inspiration.

How many transmissions have you gone through? Now THOSE are crap in the impala, ask me how I know.

**** it. Buy a 03/04 cobra crate.

Like this? Not sure what year it is though...

scaprice its gone thru 2 transmission both with me.....but then again i drive 300 miles in a day....12 hour shifts and sometimes i dont turn it off in the whole shift.....i drive around the mentally handicapped, the blind, and the elderly and I average about 30 pick ups in a day, and in Miami traffic...chevy's are very strong cars.

From what I've read the transmissions are dooky in ALL of them. You do drive alot but you can't blame that in this case. They're just that bad. My stepmoms babied 07 w/60 is already developing the known issues. I hate that f'n car.

Lol, I wish. I've still got some G.I. Joe's somewhere, but not those.

Google images helped me out. :)
