Build me a 13" rear brake kit.

So you guys saved me several hundred on my front brakes and I am now thinking of the rears. I just want more rotor to fill the wheel. So can I just get another set of front Cobra rotors and does someone make a bracket that moves the stock caliper out and foreward?
That brakesrus place wants like $700 for the kit and all it looks like is the front rotor, bracket and a stock or Cobra caliper (not that theres much difference).

Thoughts?
 
Why waste the cash on a big rear brake kit??? The front brakes do 70-80% of the stopping power anyway. The rear brakes do very little for stopping the car, they mainly slow down the rotation of the drivetrain. Id just do a Cobra kit if you really must have the bling.
 
Keep the brakes balanced imho. Use the normal Cobra ~12" rears...
Fast Ed for the brackets and rings. Redrill Cobra rotors like you did the front.
Search for DLF's page on the conversion as I'm not looking for it for you newb... ;)

Just go with the 11.65" Cobra rotors, a relocation bracket, your stock calipers, and keep your parking brakes.

Too large a rear setup will cause front/rear brake balance issues.

LOL Well i have to do my front brakes soon and was thinking about a full Cobra swap but i really dont need the extra stopping power for a bone stock car, insted im dropping the cash on a front end overhaul and stock rotors and pads, something more "useful" for me !lol
 
I just wanted the bling factor. The stock setup sends very little to the rear anyway. I am thinking about modding it to allow for a bit more rear bias.


Jamie, your rotors look like they have been way over heated. Also the wear marks are unusual. Does the car have a bad wheel bearing or are the rotors loose?
 
the rear rotors are :q:q:q:qed! jeremi sent me a set of rings to get the rotors centered and true, when i hit the brakes it feels like the trunk lid is gonna rattle off the car lmfao!!

Wilwood offers boosters that you can calibrate. My stepfather uses them on the bonneville salt car. But seriously, Lol not even close to feasable to have a 13" rear brake on that car man. Maybe if you had some jet engines and were looking at the fastest speed record it would make sense, but otherwise? The new car manufacturers and their 15" carbon brakes are so overkill, I think it's just to help sell the cars, even they don't need them.. Not on a street car. I don't think Brembo OR Wilwood even makes a caliper that's specified to accept larger than a 14" rotor, and even those are meant for the front. Understand that bling in the knowledgable world is probably no larger than a 17" wheel because rear gear ratios will give you everything you need and you have less rotating mass. I'm sure you're reading this thinking "well duh I understand that" Lol but, you're just not going to see a 13" rotor on a car that's purpose-built for performance, it's more rotating mass in itself and just more weight overall.
 
DLF was a big help in finding sources for hubs, and referral to FastEd for rear caliper brackets. Still shopping for calipers/pads/rotors, but my total hub swap will be around $600. Then to get the illusive 18" SpeedStars...

How 14" in the front and 13" in the rear work? Or is that too extreme for a full bolt-on MarkVIII? That is my goal for now as my budget allows, I hear so many things about brake sizes and I'm not sure what to get yet. I want to get my mark to run, stop,handle,look, and sound well first, I'll worry about the power when I'm done with all the other stuff
 
You're right, Chicken - but for me, hub swap benefits outweigh staying with stock bolt pattern. Keeping the 4-1/4 works for you, thats great.

You can't get too extreme on stopping power. I'd love that setup, but, being solely aftermarket, I can't justify the pricetag.
 
I was looking at brothersperformance.com and saw the baer 14" fronts($900.00) and saw the 13" rears on discbrakesrus.com($600.00), I would love to do it with the hubswap. I'm keeping her(the mark) for a long time and so I was thinking why not?
 
I did a big break upgrade on my WRX to 14.25" fronts and 12.75 rears. It not only made the car stop much more smoothly but made the pads last longer too :D

I went thru a lot of pads and rotors when it was stock sized but since I switched I still have the same big rotors and all this with the stock calipers to boot. I would do that with my Mark in a sec if it didn't mean I had to go bigger rims right now. Funds are tight and the stock rims are holding the semi snow tires so gotta stay small for now :(
 
This car is my daily driver and my oldest son loves it and begs to ride with me all the time, so I'm seriously thinking of doing this mod hell being able to stop on a dime with my kids(all 3) in the car its worth it to me.
 
Has anyone done a standard PBR dual piston swap up front I know it can't be done with stock rotors but if u dropped to the standard tbird 10.8in rotor it could be done right

yes it will work and it should have a little bit better braking
