What did you do on Black Friday?! I opened up the old Lincoln around Lowe's Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Cool!

I enjoyed my laps at Bristol during the Power Tour... definitely a memorable experience. :)

To run on Charlotte's track you had to either donate $25 to their charity or purchase $50 of stuff from their gift shop (I donated).

They let you run 3-laps.

The only rule, don't pass the pace car. You can pass other cars.

My brother-in-law and I drove it for 2-sessions. The pic above is from the inside of his Dakota.

I got up to 110mph on the 2nd session. It was very, very cool. It might have been the best $25 I've ever spent!!

I believe they do this at Daytona Motor Speeway also. Both tracks don't advertise it much so they don't get overwhelmed. Both tracks do this on black Friday only (as far as I know). I really didn't even believe it was going to happen until after I purchased the tickets at the track, the whole thing seemed too good to be true. We didn't even have to wait to get on the track, we pretty much drove right into the stadium and into the staging lanes!

The bank on the track is something like 25-degrees..........that's a lot. :D

Next time I go to Charlotte to see my brother-in-law for turkey day, I'm taking the Vette. Doug, you can come too, as long as you make the stuffing. lol

The cars that showed up included everything from minivans, to a Hemi pick-up, a 67 Chevelle, an early 80's 911, new challengers, camaros, vettes and stangs........so basically a mix of people's toys and just regular daily drivers.

I would LOVE to do that. I would have to slow down to a near stop and get the pace car behind me then go WOT untill I caught back up just to see what she could do. :D

that wouldnt make sense though in daytona, because the turkey rod run is held on thanksgiving day thursday, friday, sat and sun so if they didnt want to advertise that would be one of the dumbest ways to go about it lmfao!! but then again, with the insane number of people who attend the turkey rod run, they could also bank some serious cash if they do that same deal on daytona's track. either way i would love to take my 97 around a track a few times!

Yup, that's the idea and how I got up to 110mph. In the pic above I'm going about 40mph, my brother-in-law's Dakota is the only car behind me (he was doing about 20mph in that pic lol), and the pace car is about 1/2 track ahead of me doing ~80mph.

My brother-in-law got up to 95mph is his dakota (V6 with 6-speed manual).

Ken's 2011 Nascar Mark VIII

I'm in the Charlotte, NC area right now for Turkey day and I'll be driving the Mark around Charlotte Motor Speedway again this year!! The event is this Friday, November, 25th. As I said above last year, they don't advertise this much, I guess so they don't get overwhelmed.

This is just about the most fun you can have in a Mark VIII. If you are anywhere near Charlotte, this event is 100% worth it!!

Doug - is this enough notice for you to get down here......don't forget the stuffing. :)

f your plans man. if i lived in any surrounding state and had a mark that turned on i would definately go

I'm only about an hour north of the Charlotte Motor Speedway, but I never knew what time(s) of the year they opened the track up like that. If I still had my Mark VIII, I'd probably ride down there Friday. Maybe this time next year, I'll have another Mark and can make it to the speedway.

BTW, for anyone interested, there's a local "Pull-A-Part" DIY salvage yard just a few miles down the same street as the speedway, and the last time I checked (2-3 weeks ago), they had a gen2 Mark VIII in stock, so if anyone's in town for the holidays or driving in for the speedway run, you might stop by there if you're looking for some parts.
