***SCROLL DOWN FOR PICS OF NEW FIXED PAINT!***
I went back to driving a lincoln recenty after I sold my GTP. I Found a '95 Mark VIII for $1900 on craigslist. Description was the standard lackluster newspaper ad style abbreviated crap, but it said "obo" so I gave them a call. Drove down to Venice from Bradenton (maybe an hour) to give it a look, got out and looked it over and figured I would not buy it. It looked like it was beat.
It was covered in leaves and had primer on the passenger fender, both bumpers were faded and the drivers seat was pretty much done. The owner comes outside and hands me the keys and says it has not been started in three weeks and not been driven much in several months. So I try to fire it up and it won't start... Jumped it and it fired right up. I started playing with all the features and realized it had thousands of dollars of upkeep records in the glovebox, and all the functions worked as they ought.
So I asked to take a test drive. Other than the 1-2 shift accumulator needed to be done, it drove like a dream, I figure it will need plugs and wires, brake pads, and other than that it is good. SO now came making an offer. At $1900 I knew I'd walk away, but I asked him how flexible he was and how badly he wanted it out of his yard. He told me he was sick of looking at it, but he didn't think he wanted to just give it away. I offered $1500, he said "no", he'd "take $1700", I said "no", he told me "how about $1650" I said "how about $1400"
, so he agreed that $1600 was fair and I started counting Benjamin Franklin portraits.
All in all, I think I got a fair deal, the car has a brand new coil spring conversion, because after 3k plus in repairs over four years it kept running into problems, and resulted in the compressor malfunctioning and starting a small engine compartment fire (hence the primer). All the damage was repaired, but the paint was ruined in that area.
Here is how it sat when I got it. Pardon the bad quality pics.
