Don't forget the electric water pump this could be the reason he gets hot air when He rev the engine and cooler are at idle speeds.
 
By "electric water pump" you mean the "Auxiliary coolant flow pump" which is there to provide increased coolant flow to the heater core during low engine speed operation. The pump is also used to circulate coolant at engine shutdown in order to assist proper cooldown.

Classic symptoms of a none functioning Auxiliary coolant flow pump is no heat at low RPM's but plenty of heat at increased speeds.

Pump itself is a Bosch product. They are not know to leak too often but very possible.

It's positioned (mounted location) differently on the two GEN's
