I remember reading that we could only get the correct replacement battery from the dealership. I'm not sure if this has been talked about before, I couldn't find much about it with a search. (found plenty about Optima's and such)

After 7 years mine is junk, and I needed a new one probably a month ago but since I don't drive the LS much in the Winter I let it go.

Today I called the dealership in town and they said about $160 (grrr)

I called a couple other parts stores and they said they could not get the battery for my car. Then I called NAPA and actually found one. I'm not sure if it will be as good as the factory one but for $103 out the door I was gonna take the chance.. Anyway just wanted to say that NAPA can get a replacement battery. The cranking AMPS is 1040 and CCA is 880, vs 935 and 750 in the Motorcraft.

So it is vented like OEM? If it does that is a good buy, how long of a warranty? Seven years use for the OEM, great.....it doesn't owe you anything.
 
Oh wow, I know all the controversy on this forum about using the stock/vented batteries etc, but I cannot bring myself to pay 100 dollars for a standard wet cell battery. Just an opinion of course.

Yes, thats why I posted the pictures, in the 1st pic you can see the little plastic tube where the hose attaches and the 2nd picture is a shot of the new battery with the same tip / flange / whatever for attaching the hose.

Yes, but I just installed it tonight :D

The guy at NAPA said the Optima was $200+ I didn't research so I'm not sure what they cost.

Anyway... My stock factory battery lasted for 7 years... $100 / 7 years seems to be a decent cost ratio, for me anyway. If this one can last that long.
 
CarQuest is another source that sells the battery for the LS. That's where I bought mine from.
 
Hmm, I may have to go to napa, MAX recommended I go with Interstate but if napa works well I will go with that, since it's 50$ cheaper, and I may only have the LS for another 2 years.

I guess it varies by the dealer. I think it was about $110 for the 750 CCA OEM battery from my nearest dealer. I assume the 650 CCA OEM would be cheaper.

The NAPA battery should be fine.
 
$120 from my deally for the 750 cca battery with warranty...for the price might as well go OEM
 
Yea $120, I would have gone OEM, but I did get a 36mo warranty with the NAPA and its ratings are higher (ca and cca). Plus it was the correct battery for my car having the Vent tube in the correct position and all, I feel confident it should work out fine.
 
the car does call for a group 66 and the new one you show is a group 65 which I thought was larger and would not fit...in a group 65 you can get the 850 cca as well, where our bxt-66-750 is only 750cca.

I did ask them about the 65 vs 66... they didn't know what the difference was, but I did notice it was a tight fit, but I was able to fit it into the tray and use the stock tie down.
 
i have an 04 ls v6 and i replaced my battery with a Napa battery. It's been working perfect so far. I've had it since mid-december and it seems to be fine.
 
I went all out and got a redtop optima. Works great if u want to spend the extra cash. Stock battery lasted 10 yes for me guess I'm really lucky but unlucky with my ECM or tranny stealership hasn't called back it's been 5. Hrs and the started working on it when I dropped it off

Be aware that if you don't kludge a vent hose onto the vents on this battery, you run the risk of a hydrogen explosion inside the cabin one day.

All lead-acid car batteries vent. What you mean to say is that you have a battery that vents into the trunk and cabin instead of outside of the car via a vent tube.


I'm going to assume that you have never seen an explosion from the hydrogen vented by a battery under duress. Even out in the open it is very impressive. Confined in the cabin of a car with someone inside would be tragic, not impressive.

The only way those of us running 'drycell' batteries are going to die in a tragic accident is if we overcharge the hell out of them. They are sealed in that the only time a dry battery would vent is in the event of extreme charging conditions. On he contrary, traditional wet cell batteries are constantly releasing poisoness gasses.

In addition to the rare circumstances of dry cells exploding, the vent tube for the stock battery is still connected to the spare well and offers some ventilation without being directly connected.

I have ran multiple large batteries inside the cabins of cars for years. And I can name hundreds of others who I know do the same. It is very common in the car audio competition scene.

Unusual conditions such as the failure of the voltage regulator or the voltage sense line to the alternator? Rare, but it does happen. Crashes are rare too, but you still have seat belts and airbags.

Yes, it's a one-in-a-million sort of thing to have happen. However, if you're that one, it doesn't matter how low the odds are. Save $10 in exchange for the very slight risk of a very painful death. That equation works for you, but it doesn't work for me. I guess it's a good thing that you don't design this sort of stuff for a living.
 
Do I need to post my pic again of a properly installed Optima yellow top?

i know.....i dunno y i wrote that but in the last thread about batteries i was one of the people saying that all the batteries vent, even the kinetiks and batteries that say non venting. they have a little fuzzy piece where they let out hydrogen in cases of overcharging.
