I would go with the 2nd gen for all the same reasons listed.

They are all guaranteed to have the LSE body style minus the rear wing and the sport package. There were also some tranny issues (programming and hardware) that weren't really ironed out until the '05 model from what I have read on here. I also believe that Joegr said there was a third style of timing chains/tensioners that were used on the '06 which is what all the replacement updates are based on.

In general the '06 is your best bet for a lower-mileage LS as well.

I bought mine because it had the LSE body on it and felt awesome during the test drive. I honestly wasn't to thrilled about the looks of the LS until I saw the '06. Those square fogs out front just kind of detract from it all for me.
 
I keep seeing comments about the timing parts, but the service parts books keep showing the same parts '02 to '06.

As in the other thread, the secondary hydraulic tensioners were changed to the metal bodied type late '02 / Gen2, and possibly the primary hydraulic tensioners as well. Also with the Gen 2 (possible late '02) the primary chains and sprockets were changed from the roller style (same as secondaries) to a stronger silent link style.

Understand about the appearance items from one person to another.
 
Maybe I just don't know enough about these cars yet but your pics up there, it says option A is a sport... But it has a chrome grill. And option B is NOT listed as sport... But has a silver grill. Did you get that backwards?

But either way, get the 06. :D I paid $12,000 for mine last April so you may find a better deal but get an 06 if you can.

Confirmed '02 has silent link primaries and metal body primary tensioners. The '02 also has the timing chain oil squirters on the oil pump. At least, mine does! I really need to look up the build date some time....

All 06s have the LSE style body color grill surround with chrone slats.

well for starters, it seems like everybody is always wanting to switch their bumpers out for LSE front ends, since LSE are always pretty rare to find, its far more easy to buy the 06 where they all have that front end.

its as close to a new car as you will ever get with an LS.

the newer the LS the fewer problems they seem to have.

the older the LS, the more problems they seem to have.

and finally, all 06's are V8's.
 
I agree the '06 is what I'd do, but both are 37% OVER kbb private party good pricing. I think if you are patient and haggle well, you can get what you want right at kbb private party good. Bought my wife's '07 BMW via cars.com and had to go to San Jose but got it right at kbb ppg. It's an inexact deal, but prices on both of those seem high.

This '04 LSE is the wrong color but it's below the $10,106 kbb ppg price...

KBB tends to be overpriced which is good if you are selling a car, and what dealers often refer to in selling used cars. NADA and Edmunds aren't bad if you don't have access to the regional auction data.

My only point is to look around for Gen2s and not be hampered on a singular mission.
 
...thanks everyone for their input... it has help me work alot of things out in my mind... I agree with the reasoning an '06 would be the better option when compared with an '02... but at what cost.

I am extremely selective when it comes to my vehicles. I would rather spend the extra $1000-$2000 on a vehicle i have a good feeling about and am completely satisfied with (colors/options) than buying a vehicle for a "good price". I stay away from private sales unless they are within driving distance, for obvious reasons.

..regardless what KBB says...I figure a vehicle in the shape im looking for at a (trustworthy) dealer is gonna be around $7-10k for an '02 and probably $12-15k for a gen II. Just to give you an idea why i say that here's what i am looking for...

Silver Frost or Silver Birch or White Ceramic exterior..."Dove" (grey) interior... V8 (V6's are not even an option)... Excellent condition both inside and out (no major dings/scratches or stains inside, repainted cars dont count as being "perfect")...and less than 75k miles (the lower the better obviously)... now this might be impossible to find, but so far i found two...see pg one of this thread.

The '06 is gonna make me spend about $4k outta my pocket to get into, where the '02 should be covered with my insurance $$ (value of my car + extra$ i have with receipts). The way i see it is im gonna spend that $4k on a 98-02 accord and be ahead of the game in the long run... thats my thoughts as of now anyway.:shifty:

except for the coil revisions, valve cover gasket revisions, and throttle body revisions, any and all other revisions that actually make it more reliable of a car.

Yep, your always right. He should spend $5-7k more for better valve cover gaskets. There are the same part number for all the Gen2s, but the '06 are better.

Same part numbers but that doesnt mean the parts have ever been updated. I might be biased but i love my 06. I figure when buying a car why not buy the newest you can possibly get.

The newest LS is already gonna be 6 years old and its only getting older. Age is a factor on wear and tear just as much as mileage.
