...thursday in wet, rainy, sh*tty conditions i totaled my '02 LS. Lost control changing lanes on the parkway (traction cntrl. didnt work for some reason?? and the ass end spun out) and I went into the guardrail at about 50mph. Long story short im looking for another one...and i have two in mind. My decision is gonna be largely based on how much i get from the insurance company.

I had a '02 non-sport with the V8, had about 105k on it (I had it since 37k, 6 yrs ago) and I really loved my LS despite the minor problems. I had alot invested in my LS, and thankfully most of what i put into it will be able to work on the next one. So the question is...which one do i get?

My LS:

Option A
- 2002 Sport LS V8, silver frost with dove interior, heated seats, 61k miles...really clean inside and out - $9,998.00

Option B - 2006 LS V8, silver birch with dove interior, heated & cooled seats, 41k miles...just as clean inside and out - $14,773.00

They are both a lil overpriced IMO but there are not many low milage LS left out there...I would obviously go with the 06 if they were the same price...im just having difficulty justifying the extra $5k :( - thats a lot of coils for the 2002 ...honestly i just want my car back and i think the 2002 sport will be able to satisfy that...any thoughts??
..thanks in advance

Its now 2012.

Makes more sense to get car thats only 6 years old versus 10. So much more you get with the 06's.

Sucks about your LS, but at least you're ok, right? As far as a replacement I say the 06 would be my first choice. Work them down on the price on either one though.

If $5000 difference is an issue, then from a money standpoint I would not be considering the 02 at all either. Basically, $10 racks for an 02 is throwing money away. At least in my opinion.

Bite the bullet and buy the gen 2 since you are already willing to spend Damn near that on an 02.

06 for sure unless you are pressed for cash. That 02 looks pretty clean and surprisingly low miles.

Duh..... The '06. For the reasons stated above and many, many more!

thanks guys, yea im actually perfectly fine...the car did its job... seriously frustrated though

...you guys are right on and have mentioned all the reasons im struggling with the whole thing :( ...im looking for a silver or ceramic white LS with grey interior... picky, yes... but i know what i want... ive searched pretty much the entire east coast... ive tried to consider an entirely different car, but IMO the LS is the best all around car for $10-15k.

Wait and find cheaper... Plenty of 06 less than that.....if money is an issue

its easy to justify the difference in the price! ive owned both, no deal on earth would keep me from getting a 2nd gem over a 1st gen. its not even a close consideration. every little stupid thing that used to drive me crazy with my first LS was addressed with my second LS. not to mention that the 1st gen has 50% more miles and is 4 years older. sad to say it but even the newest LS is quite old now.

John, sorry to hear about your Ls man. Glad you okay!

As stated above go for a 06.

Unless, you wanna buy mine? It's for sale.

...dually noted... and yea the LS is not brand new anymore, still looks damn good though, they (Cadillac/Ford...no German cars until I can afford the parts lol) need to make something worth buying like asap... the money thing isnt a huge issue, dont get me wrong - money is always an issue to consider lol...its more about just replacing what i had with the money i get from insurance... idk if i want to invest another $5k into getting back into an LS.

...and thanks Edgar... im pretty depressed about it though  ...how much r u selling for? lol

Just my personal preference, I like the style of a Gen 1 better than the Gen 2. Probably going to get flamed on for that one but just my preference. I'm actually in the same position as you right now. My LS got hit and totaled.

Watchout Loud, God forbid someone say that the "perfect" gen 2 is old. LOL. You may as well have called it a gen 1. I know there will be a few gen 2 owners with their feelings, make that egos, hurt just a little.

Lmao!

E-bay has a few 4 sale and autotrader. Yahoo auto has some also. Lower the milage the longer B 4 replacement parts required and bugs worked out! 06 V8 best IMO. How long you plan on keeping it determines your investment quality! Good luck!

Island, Glad you came out of it OK. The car did it's job safety wise.

There are a good number of these out there for sale, just keep looking. If you're looking on CraigsList, don't use search Tempest. It doesn't do that good of a job and you'll miss some.

Guys, within the Gen2 why are you so focused on the '06 over the other years?
