anyone ever tinted your headlights/taillights?

hey, has anyone ever tinted your headlights or taillights on a 97-98 mark8? if so please post some pics!

Nope. Nobody here has ever thought about it much less tried it. Dont think its possible. You would need some kind of super rare and hard to obtain VHT Nightshades or add a couple drops of black to clear coat or use tinted vinyl. Too bad none of that exists.

Hell I bet it wouldnt even come up in a search. Hell, bet there isnt a thread about it on this same first page as well.

Oh well.

I know this might sound strange but I have actually seen someone use window tint for their headlights. They used 5% and it was used on a GM rectangle shaped glass bulb. You know the kind that can't be opened.. Just a normal old school halogen light and the tint held up to the heat.

If someone good with a heat gun could lay it just right on a Gen 2 housing, it might look pretty good. If not, it's not like much money was wasted and if any residue is left, it will polish off. I would stop in at a tint shop and ask if they have a piece that size and be willing to try it out. Never know, they might do both for free just for the fun of it.

I can say, from 5 feet away or more, it looks good but if someone got right up on it and looked for flaws, they would be seen. Good thing about it is that you can pick your shade and if the person is good, it will be an exact fit and it will easily hold up to HID lighting heat. Much less than halogen heat. I have not seen this done on a plastic housing so..... idk

What are nightshades

Tint in a spray can. I used it on my Cobra. Looked great but didnt last. Needs to be clear coated.

Walmart sells it for cheap.

Well hell, I didn't know. I just remember seeing it done on flat surface halogen lights and it looked good.

The Gen 1 housing might be easy to do but a Gen 2 will require a heat gun and some tint laying experience, I would assume. I have seen more than enough scrap left over from having my windows done several times at the tint shop, so I figured they wouldn't mind slapping that on for little or nothing.

Yeah I was looking at doing my last Mark but after starring at the light I realized I just dont have the skill to lay tint on that kind of surface. I was then looking at Sappers 93 and realized it would be pretty easy on a Gen 1 to lay some film.
