Am I being overly picky about this?

I ordered two brand new center caps for the Octi's I have (that haven't been put on yet) and in the pics on ebay, I thought I saw some scratches but with the ceiling and the person reflecting off them in the pic, it was kinda hard to tell.

So.. I ask the seller specifically if they had scratches on them and his exact response was "I only have two left and they are new, make me an offer"

Ok, I don't believe that was what I asked so anyway, he was asking about $55 each on these and I felt like $70 for both and free shipping was fair so that was my offer. He accepted the offer and I get them today. Now I ask, if you get NEW chrome center caps, should they come to you like this?

Anyone that has or had Octi's knows that the center cap is huge and it will be seen, without a doubt. Now the seller has 6 more in stock. Am I wrong for complaining and asking him to look through the 6 he has and sending me some that do not look like what he has already sent? I'm not leaving him bad feedback or anything, just simply explaining to him that I expected new, not scuffed and scratched center caps. I can handle some hair line scratches but not this.

I don't have octi's but I've seen octi center caps before. Your not wrong for complaining, you paid for something that he displayed as "new" and clearly from the pictures you posted of what you received, they are not.

You're more picky than I am.

Believe me, I know that. :D The one off the wheel you sent me is one of the caps I was replacing lol. Looks like the whole town of Smurfs got inside it and rode down a hill of snow. Be real though G, $70 for two of them. they should not come like that.

Wow. $70 bucks for two center caps is a $hitpile of money!! I would expect them to shine like new money. Those clearly do not. They look like they've been handled quite a bit before they got to you. They're by no means "new" as the seller stated. Unless by "new" he means that they were new when he got them and played table tennis with them before sending them to you:)

This is his new pic he has posted now. Kinda misleading if you ask me. Makes it look like you're getting two but it does say "center cap"

It's hard to tell if those are scratches or smudges. Anyway, new to me should mean those caps ought to be in plastic that says Ford. That's new! I think I bought new from the workshop where a worker used them to put lug nuts and then the customer complained about how his caps looked when he left the Lincoln shop. I don't know but he is currently working with me and sending me pics of the six that he just got in stock, after I bought the two.

Your being picky, but at the price you paid you're allowed.

I used some chrome polish and lightly cleaned up my 20 spoke caps. Looked tons better. Might want to try that before going through the exchange process.

P.s. Did he have it listed as " New(other)" in the org listing?

He even sent me an ebay message back that "they were NEW, make me an offer" The listing above is exactly the same as it was when he had two left. Same pic is being used for the additional six he now has for sale.

New other (see details): A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear.

You are not being picky. Those are far from new condition. Hell, I see not a scratch, but a GOUGE in one of them next to the Lincoln logo. Don't know how the fvck you're going to buff that one out. I'd haggle him to make it right. Unfortunately, Ebay has its share of liars and crooks.

He is offering to work with me and even asked for my email address to send me pics of the other six he has. If you look at the pics above, even inside the Lincoln logo, I see dirt accumulated.

Looks like he said they were new. He just forgot to mention that they were new 100000 miles ago.

You are more picky than most. However, if you bought them as new, that means new. Not slightly scratched. Your car is not a daily driver therefore it deserves the best of the best! At least the seller is working with you. I think you got the caps for a good price. $35 a piece is more than fair for something that is so rare IMO. Please put them on the car already!! I can't wait to see the transformation!!

I'm working on it lol. I'm ready for them to be on too! Just having some of the bead areas smoothed out because of peeling on the inner bead. As for only waiting to get perfect caps before I put them on, that's not the case but I was hoping they would show up today in "like new" condition. I also have this coming today or tomorrow and it was listed as NOS, which is "New Old Stock" and I do expect to maybe see a hair line scratch here and there, something that can be buffed out but either way, they're going in the closet because mine are fine but do need to be buffed out. Nothing broken.

My car doesn't have "Traction Assist" and when I saw this, I had to jump on it because it's discontinued and I highly doubt another set like this will show up on ebay again.

No I don't think your to picky. Good Luck and remember you only have 45 Days for recourse so if it isn't resolved by then start a grievance through the resolution center. It will buy you more time so you still have the power to demand a refund or to leave bad feed back.

I don't think you're picky at all. My 15 year old octi center caps look alot better than the new ones he sent you.

I like how he skirted around your question on whether they were new or not.
Apperently, the man does not seem to be concerened too much about keeping them scratch- free. Notice in the other pic he sent, he took pics of both sides of the caps. One set showing the caps chrome face placed directly on the tile floor with no protection from whatever grit is on that floor.

For the kind of money he wants for them, I hope you get a new, scratch-free set.

As long as he sends me the two he sent me pics of just above, I'll be happy with them. When he sent those pics, there wasn't anything said and now I see he has changed his listing but he must not know that I have the original. He may get back with me tomorrow. They just came in today and his Monday's are probably busy so I'll give him that much. I have to get a RMA# first so I'm not sending anything until I get that but either way, I do consider what I'm seeing in the two pics above to be "like new". If they were new, they would be in Ford plastic, unopened.

Yeah, I agree, you don't take an Octi cap and lay it on it's face for the grit to eat at it. I explained to him that if I ever go and have a rotation or balance done, I remove my caps before it ever gets inside the shop. He said he was the same way about his...

In my mind, if they're not still sealed in their original plastic bags, then they're not new. In fact, if you list something on ebay as "new", then the description will say:

"New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable)."

I don't think the guy's a scammer necessarily, and it sounds like he's trying to make you happy, so that's good. But I'm just as picky as you, and I wouldn't accept the ones he sent you, nor should you feel obligated to accept them.

Tell him to wrap them in a soft felt or a "Crown Royal" bag - much better than newspaper!

I'm going to send what he sent me back in a box and bubble wrapped to the max and inside that box, I'm going to ask for the ones pictured right above to be sent back the same way as I shipped and a shipping label will be included for him. One thin sheet of news paper separating the two just ain't cuttin it.
