I just bought a 97 LSC and the owner had just spent almost what I paid for the car to install new HID's along with new housings. While the light output isn't bad, it isn't as good as some of my other vehicles with standard off the shelf halogen bulbs. I then noticed that on eBay, one can buy HID retrofit kits up to 55 Watts. I imagine that these 55 W bulbs might put out quite a bit more light than what's in our Mark VIII's which are probably more like 35 Watts. Has anyone tried retrofitting their housing to accept one of these HID conversion kits? What are the potential snags/pitfalls?

where did you get brand new housings and brand new hid's? you say the light output isnt that great, i may be wrong but i am willing to bet the dealer put the new redesigned halogen retro housings in your gen 2. the only housings you can get brand new from ford for a gen 2 now are the new sylvania halogen housings, which look exactly the same as the old ones, but they use a standard halogen incandescent bulb instead of the hid bulb.

The previous owner worked for the Lincoln parts department and was able to buy them. He said they cost him $1200 for the pair which included the lens housing. However, customers are charged double that price.

These new bulbs start off real dim then gradually brighten up. I have never seen halogens do this.
