94 Mark VIII Interior facelift Progress

lol!!

come on down dan, i got the stuff to finish it!!! drive it, i'll even help you.

God, its tempting... Wish money wasnt tight right now, i'd pay you for the parts now, just to know I haddem. I am probably going to paint the dash. I am completely comfortable swapping the dash, but I have had nothing but perfect results with the vinyl paint I have been using. I really need the door panels and that random trim that goes under the door. Let me think about it a bit. Next month has an extra payday in it, so I may have a few free dollars.

I happen to love it! Now I'm in the mood to continue mine... Guys what do you think about dyeing the beige carpet to black? I have a friend that did that to an Acura Integra he owned & his carpet looked brand new!

That looks damn nice!!

I'm inspired now.

Are you going to two tone the driver/passenger doors also? I'd love to see some examples before I get started.

Well, here's an update...

The paint that I used to paint that quarterpanel trim did something odd. I have used Krylon fusion for EVERYTHING I have painted for a year or 2 in this car and my old SHO. Anywho, this is the first time that the paint has stayed tacky in some spots. The majority of the peice that I painted dried and looks great, but on the opening around the window, there are sploches that look the same as the rest, but are tacky. SO, I made a last visit to my parts Mark at the pull a part. Picked up both rear quarter trim panels, the carpet under the back glass, black a/c vents, black glove box door, and a black fuse panel door. The entire interior now is going to be black. I am going to patiently wait fora set of black 2nd gen door panels to complete the swap and I am going to paint the lower section of the dash black.

My gripe with pullaparts is how many good parts get destroyed by idiots. There are 5 M8s in that yard, and all of them have the center console so F*cked up that the ashtray/cup holder assemblies were all broken. The black leather seat back that I personally tried to keep nice for anyone else coming along was lying under the car yesterday. Along with the mint black door panels that were destroyed because some idiot needed window motors.

Well, I went back to the pullapart because I decided the 2 tone quarter trim panels werent going to work... Here is a shot now of the back seat...

Forgive the Cell phone pix.

And here is the center console. I didnt take any before pictures but we all know how ugly a saddle center console looks. I used Rust-Oleum carpet and vinyl paint to paint the console. I completely dissassembled the console rivets and all. I am really anal about paint lines and stuff like that so, I made sure there werent any. I used carpet that I got at big lots to recover the sides of the console. If I didnt know better, I would think that this was a New Old Stock console. It looks amazing.

Its getting there. I am going to paint the dash on saturday. This paint works awesome. There were a couple of times I thought I put it on too thick but it just flowed out and looked flawless.

Dude after doing the same color combo on my seats & dash last year I had to continue & just finished going from beige to black carpet. HUGE difference! In the next couple days I'll be painting the quarter panels. I was inspired by you to do the 2 toned on the quarter panels, cant believe you ended up painting them all black!

I didn't paint them all black... I should have used the paint that I used on the console on the quarter panel trim. The paint on the quarter trim stayed tacky and was too glossy even though it was satin paint. I still have the 2 toned quarter trims, but I went and bought all black ones, thats whats in the car now.

Thats an update on the whole backseat area... on to the dash situation.

So, as for the front dash, I am a Ford Technician and a dash swap is easy sauce as I do stuff like this on a daily basis but I opted not to mess with my already perfect condition dash, so I painted it. I removed all of the dash components and wiped the whole thing down with paint thinner.

I like this vinyl paint because it really does look like black vinyl. It has a slightly dull finish. If you wait a day or so for its cure time and hit it with some protectant, it pops just like vinyl would.

Here is the dash mostly assembled.

And incase anyone was wondering, the steering wheel, steering column trim, a/c vent housings, glove box door, seatbelts, carpet, seat skins, quarter trim, and carpet under the back window are real black parts, everything else in the car has been painted.

looks good dude, did you use the low gloss duplicolor vinyl dye? thats what i used when i painted my mocha dash, thats all i did was remove the majority of the dash crap and taped inside the car off. much better than saddle for sure!!! my dash came out very similar.

i bought a whole doner car though just for the interior, my interior swap cost me 500 bucks, but after parting the doner car out i think i made about 1500 bucks profit for swapping my interior!

i had fun doing it actually, it was worth the 3 days i spent doing it, i would do it again if i had to, what about you dan?

I used Rustoleum's brand of "Carpet and Vinyl" paint. I would use this stuff all day long on vinyl, but I don't know how I feel about using it on carpet. My swap was a little different than yours because I kinda did it peice by peice. Did the seats, then a carpet. Pulled the quarter trim twice, pulled the back seat 3 times total after I found a carpet unexpectedly. I have put a decent amount of work into every single part of this interior it feels, like the console and things that needed to be taken apart and painted separately. I am very excited for how the car is turning out. I still need some black door panels, sun visors and a head liner and it will be all black. Love this way more than the saddle for sure, saddle parts next to it look like mustard!
