CAn someone confirm or disagree with me that there is a third cat that connect the two pipes on the exhaust, this guy on u tube is argueing with me on Isiahs car, Isiah said he removed a cat, the guy is saying that he shouldn't have because then it would be uneven back pressure, then i said it was a third cat that conects the two pipes he got rid of and he said it was a silencer. here is the link,

so if someone could confirm or disagree that would be nice

That assembly is made of both a cat and a resonator.

As far as "back pressure" since the Mark doesn't have a pulse scavenging exhaust system, I suspect it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Straight out of my Ford service manual for my 1993: (part 09-00-1)

The exhaust systems are equipped with two mufflers, three catalytic converters, interconnecting pipes and a resonator.

Here's a useful pic that Max provided:

Just send him a link to this thread Danny, if he wants to argue.

His latest response made me laugh, trying to say that you were both right and both wrong, when really, he was the one that was one hundred percent wrong.

:why:

:slam

Ya there are two "objects" back there. Each with a different function.

Still work at Stadium Danny?

So YOUR the guy,Danny. Lol
I was wondering who that was on there.
When I removed the cat I wasn't sur what it was, just knew it would sound cool without it. A total n00b,I just wanted that thing to sound good. So it went to th local land fill.
:D

Anyone that says eliminating the cat will reduce backpressure and result in power loss is a moron! Every single car I've opened up the exhaust on was MUCH faster after.

I had LT's installed on my 2v GT with a catted H into borla catback. Previously I had just the borla and a catted X. I was VERY disappointed in the power gain from the long tube headers. I called a well known builder in this area (has some magazine stang builds) Ramseys performance and he said the catted pipe was robbing all the gains I SHOULD be getting from adding the headers. He said if you added an ORH or ORX you would net all the gains you should have got from the headers and then some. MAN WAS HE EVER RIGHT! That thing was an f'n animal when I switched out the pipe!

Btw...he wasn't trying to sell me anything because I told him I would be doing it myself.

the lsc exhaust on a gen 1 is the same as a gen 2 except gen 1's have 4 02 sensors, gen two have 2 02's the lsc exhaust looks like the base exhaust except
the 3rd cat on the lsc exhaust has 2 pipes going into it, and two coming out, with no resonator after it, like the 2 into one exhaust of the base model. and the true lsc dual exhaust pipe is tiny diameter so they could fit them under the car together, but as many have found out like me as well, much larger pipe can be fit side by side if the exhaust shop knows what they are doing! i have dual 2 1/2 inch pipes under mine the whole way from the header collector back. my 98 lsc had 2 1/2 inch duals as well.

Sure about those O2 sensors Jamie? 93-95 have two, 96 up have four. Right?

Yep. I know all that. I have a '96 Base and a '97 LSC. I'm just looking for a diagram of the exhaust like the one pictured above. Also, what is the OD of the '97 LSC exhaust? If anyone knows off the top of their heads. Looks like 2" to me. I'm planning to do a little exhaust work on my '97 LSC and I may have to have a shop do a little bit of it. It would be easier to explain what I want done if I had a picture to show them. If anyone has a service manual, would you mind scanning the LSC dual exhaust diagram and posting it here? Thanks.

Okay. I know this is an old thread, but I asked for a pic of the LSC exhaust system from the service manual and nobody ever responded. So I finally got around to going to my local Ford dealership and got one printed out. Here it is if anyone else is interested.

awesome thanks for posting that....although i have that system on my 93, with the 3rd cat deleted xpipe installed in its place and some flowmasters out back...

That's pretty awesome! I ended up doing the glasspacks and an H-Pipe in the place of the 3rd cat. It sounds almost exactly like yours. I will have videos soon. I would have one up right now but my batteries are dead in my camera. :(
