Gen 2 crossgen (Sapperfire?)

Sapperfire, Your input is welcome... Alright guys, as some of you may or may not know. My wife has been using my 93 for the last 3 months or so as her daily driver. However she loves the comfort & luxury of my Gen 2. I am looking at the possibility of selling my 93 as soon as I'm done fixing the front end. I want to obtain a Gen 2 (preferably in black or cordovan). Eventually my plans are to convert the front end on the Gen 2 to a Gen 1. I have a beautiful Gen 1 grill & LSC headlamps tucked away in my closet :) waiting for the right moment. I know I need the header panel, hood, bumper cover & fenders from a Gen 1. What else do I need? What type of headaches should I expect?

I love my Gen 1 but like I've mentioned before, I agree with my wife, the interior looks like it belongs on a FORD, definitely NOT "LINCOLN" luxury. In 95 & 96 they did make it a little nicer but not as nice as the Gen 2's. My wife is amazing & she's willing to continue driving Mark VIII's but she says she's growing tired of driving the 93. It's too masculine, too "Tom Boyish" since it's lowered, has exhaust, low profile wheels, etc... well, most of you have seen my car in pictures so you know what I'm talking about. Never the less, that's my plan. Not in a rush because my 93 is SOLID! It's mechanically sound so I'm simply giving it up for hopefully another SOLID Gen 2.

I want your input on what I could/should do. Is it really worth it?
 
Why not just let her drive the gen 2 every once in a while , hell, I got to hide the keys from my wife , I can't keep her outa my gen 2 .

Don't

You'll need a cowl Hood, or you'll have to shave/cut the stock hoods frame in a couple places. The EGR hits. The wiper cowl also needs to be shaved
 
Gen 1 dont have a header pannel.

Gen 2 plenum and EGR like to touch the Gen 1 hood.

Forgot what they call the equivalent of the Gen 2 headerpanel... that black bracket behind the headlamps.

She know's I'm a PITA when it comes to both of my Mark VIII's but because my Gen 2 has original paint, original low miles & its in beautiful condition I'm very, picky with the car. It currently sits inside my car port which is completely enclosed & has a car cover over it. I don't have a garage so that's the best way I can protect it. I bring the car out on Friday afternoon & put it away Sunday night. I want to continue enjoying this car for years to come.
My 93 doesn't have original paint, it has 106,XXX miles & there's nothing original about it. It's customized. She doesn't avoid puddles, she parks the car wherever she pleases, she doesn't look for that wider spot to prevent door dings, she isn't car savvy so no matter how many times I explain how rare these Marks are & how hard it is to find parts, she does her thing. So I let her drive the 93 as opposed to my 97.
 
Sounds like it would just be easier to get rid of the wife:D:lol:

sapperr you guys are awful lolol -- i know you're just joking - after 38 years with the same old Woman i know you are joking -- heck they have half the money and have all the u know what ! -- wife is driving my 94 to work 60 miles a day --- i go out and have a walk around often lol -- she loves it --- 49,000 miles on it now - she's put 5,000 on it sense we got it -- before Christmas --- maybe ill get a good shell -- black on black - good start. build a motor , turbo or 2 -- 6 speed 3:73s -- heck a single turbo would do for a driver -- if she ever gives it back!! :rolleyes: pic is of a teksid that the crank gave up at high speed -- yikes - they do blow up -- it had a high speed comeapart no doubt :eek:

Cowl Hood would make it simple, but I think the square in the middle looks kinda odd with gen2 mirrors. I'm doing something a bit different

....its still called a header panel

Cast crank from what I can see.. plus the scoring on the counter weights = crank walk. Pretty common actually, I've seen quite a few 5 speed 4.6 cranks that look pretty close to that. 03/04 cobras tend to do bad things when some azzhat does a 5th gear pull out on the freeway.
That block has seen better days, looks like a couple of gremlins got in there with hammers.
A little JB weld and it will be good as new. :)
 
Alex, you got most of the parts listed. Gen 1 header panel,grill,fenders,bumper cover,headlights,hood,cowl,side marker lights,and a gen 1 hood latch,chrome eyebrow across the front, and inner fender liners. Real easy to do. Probably biggest issue is where the hood latch bolts. You need to drill out spot welds on core support and reweld it to the 2nd gen. The hood latch sits out farther on the 1st gens. Since you have both gens you can look and see what I'm talking about. You do have to cut a small opening on bottom side of hood to clear the 2nd gen egr valve. I'll clean my white cross gen up this weekend and take some pics for you. I actually drove my white one today, been sitting for a while. I've been driving a champagne 95 that I'm getting ready to sell. Also been riding my Busa alot lately since we've had such nice weather. I've done 2 cross gen cars and bought one that was a hack job for some other parts. As I said in another thread, I sold my black cross gen to a friend, was wrecked 2 weeks later, and I put it back together again. Wish I still had it.
