Whilst buying Lincoln parts I came up on something interesting,

So long as the spline count, and bearing race OD is the same, it's possible. Another thing to check is the hub diameter.

Still, $300 for a set. I can buy new Mark VIII hubs, new studs, plus labor, shipped to the end user for $170....

The Explorer uses a different rear wheel bearing than the Cobra (Timken 516008 vs. Set 49), so it probably won't fit.

Explorer Bearing Inner Diameter is 1.8504
Mark Bearing Inner Diameter is 1.6535

I am not gonna say it won't work, but it won't be a direct swap. They will have to be turned down on a lathe. They may or may not have enough meat to even do that safely.

That would depend on the axle spline and diameter. If they are the same as a Mark/MN12 then it "should" be feasible.

I assume the explorers are 31 spline throughout unlike the 28/31 spline combo of the Terminators.

So, I imagine it won't work.

Just a thought.

Yes but the hub bore is different so you will need a spacer/shim if you want to run cobra rotors

As Alan said, the hub size is different.

I prefer using Factory sized parts for this area of the car. Rings just don't jive with me.

This goes for redrilled hubs as well.

whats wrong with redrilled hubs? did it on mine and i trust it with my life and the life of everyone else on the road with me

Redrilling takes it out of factory specs...im sure it can cause warping and cracks as well.

Personal preference i suppose.

It's just not something ill ever do on one of my cars. Ill spend the extra money to get the right stuff for a hub swap.

FWIW, I have already hubswapped my VIII so its a non issue, but you get the idea.

is this the front hubs needed? im asking for a friend and where can the rear hubs be purchased at?

Fast Ed Caliper Relocation Bracket - $80 (not sure if he's still making them)

Among other things

Can any of the doubters explain the difference between redrilling hubs verses an axle? How about all the FFR Cobras running around on redrilled hubs? Many F100's too...

It's a non issue.

I guess.

I dont have any prior experience with redrilling but parts are engineered to a certain spec and can lose those values when altered.

Adding five holes to a hub isn't going to change those specs.

Hell my heavy duty big bearing 9 inch I have stashed has a 1 inch hole between two studs to allow a socket on the retainer nuts. Stress is rotational... I've run my hubs for almost a year. No issues, wheels bolt on just fine, lugs have never loosened.
