State of Confusion
with my 3rd motor now in as many months, its apparent that i have cooling issues.on my programmer i set the high fan on at 185,it only comes on with a/c. i understand the vlcm may contribute to the issue or the plug itself, im considering wiring it on high period. let the debate begin.
 
That su#$%. What programmer are you using ??? Well Good luck. If you lived around here I'd say take it to my brothers garage.

Welcome to my world. I swapped the computer first thinking that was it, Jamie sent it to me. Then swapped the VCRM thinking it was dead, turned out to be the wires melting on the plug. I've swapped the plug twice & the fan twice.
 
Your "problem" may indeed be the tuner (or the tooner ;)).

A Gen 2 doesn't have low and high fan settings. It's a variable speed fan with only a setting for the desired coolant temp and on and off depending upon the vehicle speed. There's also a scalar for fan speed based upon A/C Pressure.

The PCM spins the fan as fast as is required to maintain the desired temp.

The stock setting (in a BTC0 PCM) is 210 degrees. I have mine set to 186 (I have a 185 degree thermostat).

on my program it asks low on temp (starts at 165)
and hi on temp(was at 210) i put on 185
im waiting on pic to get to photobucket to show you screen
 
WOW! Focus!

Assuming that you bought it for the BTC0 PCM, then Sniper is likely using the wrong strategy, and you probably won't be able to do anything useful with the temps using their programmer.

Just because you can enter it in their software doesn't mean that the PCM will be able to do anything with it.
 
Sniper sucks. After dealing with many similar issues and having Sniper themselves write the code to make it work I sold the unit.
SCT or nothing.
 
yea bad focus. i have no stomach muscles i almost tipped out of chair when i took it! i still want to wire it on hi. i should be able to.

Easier to just do a screen capture next time.

Please don't try and rewire your car, it's a mistake.

The factory fan settings aren't causing your engine problems, there are plenty of Mark VIII's running around on the stock settings.

You have other issues.

make what work? same?.it still is every bit as good as any off the shelf chip,for basics. have a code reader,real time analysis,etc. im going dynotune when all is done anyways, its really the best to squeeze all you can out and see results

origionally, all the cats were clogged causing hot condition, took all that off.thats what ruined 1st motor headgasket. the second motor was swallowing a gallon every other fillup which was gasket, but theres only so much with a cooling system fan, pump, radiator, thermostat. sure id love to have it work right, but cant seem to get it right between vlcm and/or fan plug and theresno way to test vlcm. just because the hi comes on with a/c doesnt mean its working right.

Make IT work properly. It would shut off my knock sensors, couldnt shift the trans properly, didnt recognize their own brand MAF meter, would write code for my only car and it would say it was locked out with no bullets left even though its only been hooked to one car..... I was very dissapointed with it overall.
I would take a canned SCT Mark tune any day vs the Sniper "tuner".
Maybe the full version is better (Special Forces) but the Comando version sucked.

But hey, thats just me. I got SCT and havent looked back. Sure its harder to use but it does so much more and it does it right. Plus every Ford tuner in the state has SCT software and is familiar. Finding a Sniper tuner on the other hand..... well I never did find one.
Granted I only have a few dozen hours tuning with Sniper before I decided it sucked vs several hundred hours tuning on SCT so maybe I overlooked its awesomness somewhere.


BTW, if it was shutting down your knock sensors that could be a reason for poping motors.
What exactly are you breaking on these engines?
 
Again, there isn't a high or low speed fan setting on a GEN 2!

The PCM simply spins the fan faster when the A/C pressure is up. See the table that I attached.

If you want to see if your fan/VLCM/PCM are working correctly, then idle the car until the temp is over 210 (use your Sniper, if you can, to read the water temp from the PCM), and the fan should start to spin.

i knooooowwww. but it can be wired at full speed.i did that at idle it never got hot enough to kick fan any faster and wouldnt overheat. as soon as i hit the highway temp on the rise and thats not stomping on it, just driving normal.
the first heatedso bad i put a hole in piston

the second motor, this one im rebuilding, was swallowing water, it would run low, get warm i stop. then shooting air into cooling system

forgot how to screen cap. or print screen whatever its called. how do?
 
Alt + Prt Scr will just capture the current window, instead of the entire screen.....
 
And I still think that hardwiring the fan is a bad idea, and that you need to figure out what's really wrong.

However, it's your car, have fun and good luck, I'm done with this thread.
