The magnet looks small but it's 10lbs/160oz, 8.5" wide, double stacked motor assembly with the old school terminals.

No mag sticker or cover. I don't mind:)

So I'll assume you guys wouldn't run such things inside a mark. If I decide to use 1 or both how would you set it up? 1 Sealed in the trunk in the place of my existing box/blowthrough? A temp dual sealed enclose plopped in the backseat to see just how retardedly loud it is? Sell them and double what I paid?

Holy crap, I aint seen those in years! I thought they were the W3 at first but the cone is so big it throws the magnet size off.

How are the surrounds?

Those need a serious box. Sealed only around 1.75 cubic feet if memory servs.

The only spec's recommended by jl is sealed to 1.75cf as you said. They don't suggest a ported/4th order for them. People have input the t/s in a box software program and have came up with some killer enclosures though. If I use them they'll def be sealed.

The surrounds are "new". No signs of rot. Credence, which was the maker/build house of these back in the day was having a closeout on them this past weekend. They were gone by monday morning.
I doubt they've been sitting in their factory boxes for all these years. What I bet happened was Credence probably had a bunch of 18W6 motors and baskets for whatever reason, and used new soft parts to complete the builds.

Quit acting like heathens, and keep that crap off of the forum.

Mike

I was hopeing for suggestions on how I should use them in a mark. I edited my 1st post to reflect this.

These were badass back in the day.

But man those magnets are tiny..and the surround is small for being an 18" woofer.

My single 10" has a higher continuous power rating. cant hit as deep though.

You have to realize that most magnets have covers on them in one fashion or another making them appear larger/prettier then they really are. This is a bare naked, no makeup motor assembly.

The mags are 10lbs~/8.5" wide. The 10,12 and 15" ones had a 6.5" mag. They do look abit small compared to the cone though. The xmax is only .5" which is adaquate by today's standards. Certaintly not compared to the high spl subs that have 1"+. These are primarily sq drivers that get really f'n loud and still sound fantastic doing it. Arguably the best sq 18 in it's day.

Those are badass

Almost 10 years ago I use to rock 2 12 JL w0 8ohm subs in a sealed box and a ppi amp turned down man did it slam in my hatch back 2dr turbo shadow

That is a sweet score makes me wanna ditch my 10 type rs and get a sq sub instead instead of spl

I rocked a pair of 12" W3's from abput 2000 - 2006 but the edges rotted away. They were awesome.

lol, my first experience with JL was in h.s. with 2 12" 8ohm w0's. Had them sealed on a fosgate 800a2 I believe. For whatever reason they've remained one of my fav setups, not sure why considering they were entry level.

They're notorious for that as they get old. Heard uv rays have something to do with it.

i believe they were cadence, not credence, but i cant remember exactly, but ive been building sub boxes for more than 20 yrs, i even was in a old car audio magazine when i was 19 for a fiberglass box i built in the hatch of a 88 trans am with 1" plexiglass cover and mirrored on the bottom to see the magnets of the punch 12's. usedto shoot a tennis ball out the port about 15 feet! a the good ol days of nwa

There's Cadence which is a Audio brand and Credence that is a build house for various company's that also sells there own in house brand speakers.

I'll be building a box in the coming weeks. I have no way to haul a couple sheets of mdf home so I'll prob have lowes/hd/menards cut the wood for me.

The recommended 19x19x12.5 @ 1.75cf per is calculated using 1" mdf by JL.

Using 3/4", volume for 2

38x19x12.5 @ 4.066
40x19x12.5 @ 4.288
40x20x12.5 @ 4.5

1" "(if I can find some)

38x19x12.5 @ 3.71
39x19x12.5 @ 3.82
39x20x12.5 @ 4.04
40x20x12.5 @ 4.15

I would likely choose one of the 3/4's. All I know Is I have to stay above 3.5cf for the 2 and below 40x20x12.5". That put's me from 4cf to 4.5cf, then factor in bracing/sub disp and that should get me between 3.5-4.0cf total.

take the magnet off, go to your local high school and roll it down the halll and watch it smash into a lock

I used to rock 6 10 inch JLs in my 95gtp in high school. It was white with white five spokes and blue interior. I had blue neons inside and out. Oh and cannot forget the massive JL audio sticker on the back window. I had a chick ask me why I had the atari sign on my back window. Stupid girl.
