AVIC D series are excellent decks for the money. AVIC Z series are the best though. You can find the Z1,Z2 and Z3 for $600 ish used. The Z110, Z120 and Z130 do have far superior menu systems and better USB/iPod control but will run you $800+.

Pioneer has the best EQ, X-over, pre amp and screen out of any brand and has the best menu system hands down.

Kenwood makes some nice NAV decks now but you need their top two decks because all the lower end ones have crap screens and poor pre amps. So expect to spend over a grand unless you find one used.

Alpine makes some decient NAV systems too but again their cheaper stuff just is ok at best.

I dont really reccomend Eclipse any more. If you want iPod control theirs kinda sucks. Also their menu systems are lame and NAV is cheesy. They do have nice sound though and a great EQ/DSP preamp in them.

But if it was my money I would locate a used Pioneer Z110 thats had the Z130 upgrade done to it. Best of everything and can be found for $700-$800 used. And they last forever. My last one is still going strong and is 8 years old. Was upgraded from a Z1 to a Z3 with 80gb of on board music storage available. You put in any CD and if its the first time the deck has seen it, it will rip the CD to its internal storage. Neat thing is it knows the name of every disc and every song and titles all the tracks for you. Never need a USB or iPod or CD again.
