How much have you spent on Your Mark?

Bought my 98 lsc for $1900 with 175,000 km on clock

$150 abs unit
$20 for front brake pads
$2300 for stereo system
$800 wheels
$75 for mufflers
$125 for universal hpipe and a couple bends
$65 for one cop

I don't feel like adding

What's it all mean? I could have spent $800 on a set of lug nuts if I wanted to.

This thread is depressing, more then the car is worth that is what I have into it.

A lot...lol that's a understatement.

The tire sealant was money well spent. It has kept me from having to buy new bags for nearly 1.5 years.

you might be retarded

i came to that on my own conclusion.

you have to open your mind。。。。

JUST LIKE THE MATRIX

wow you guys have dumped a lot in your cars. im looking right at 2300 total in mine from the junk yard to how it sits now

Your car looks nice and very custom / unique. Equally impressive is how you were able to pull it all off without spending a fortune. What kind of paint and clearcoat did you use on her?

I heard he used led based in an enclosed area. You should try it

96 Toreador Red Base Purchased in Sept 2006 112,000 miles $1750
4-Kumho ECSTA AST 245/50R16 $330
4-used 10 spoke chrome directionals $130
Mercon5 change, 1-2 and 2-3 accumulator fix about $150
Transgo shift kit $65
26,000gvw Hayden trans cooler, $60
Deleted 3rd cat/mufflers, 2 1/2 true duels with x-pipe and round tips, $125

Plugs, wires about $175
Sniper tuner (waste of money IMO) $300

DieHard Platinum $220
220 amp DB Electrical alternator $225
Aftermarket HID's in low and high w/wireless relay $125
JVC headunit w/12 disk trunk mounted CD changer $400
spare (used) front and rear airsprings, $150
Field Service Manual set, $75 (priceless)
New (improved) door handles $100
Junkyard-found items (spares, for a 96):
ECM's (3)
IMRC's (3) L+R sets
VLCM's (3)
Strutmaster Springs
various other parts like engine covers, headlight housings sets (at least 4 good sets), corner lights, air ride compressors, compressor/ABS relays, spare alternators, complete console and radio/ climate control surround, ETC's (2), about $500 total.

Currently has about 126,000 miles (only 14,000 miles over 5 years), runs and drives great, perfect interior and (almost) flawless original paint, garaged and immaculate.

Total $5100, and I couldn't find an nicer, better looking/ running vehicle for twice that in my opinion. No leaks, issues, or problems at all. Mostly a weekend and nice weather car, rarely driven in rain and parked in Winter.

I do wonder at and admire those on here who use these cars as a daily driver, but think because of the complicated systems (air ride that can and will fail) and availability of parts (especially a 96), it will always just be a toy to me.

While I'd drive it anywhere, I also know that I would be on my own if I was far from home and it broke down-like most on here, I would have a real hard time trusting anyone to work on it, so I do all my own work.

Cutting through the clutter here, I have picked up on a lot of the cars' strengths and weaknesses and have made changes to get it where I want it. A Field Service Manual is essential and was one of the first things I bought, saves me from having to guess or ask and get bad information.:D

house of kolor basecoat and dupont chromaclear

Car $4700, Spent about 3000 in 1 year. Too much in my opinion.
Lets just say I will not be selling it ever, there is just no way some tool is going to enjoy my car for $2500 after I spent so much money on it.
Ill give it to my father, he loves the damn thing, it can keep company to my Mark VII in his garage. They can take turns dropping to the ground as air bags hiss away.

But I love them both!:D

I spoke many of times saying that having a mark as a dd was pretty retarded(esp w/ bags). Mine was stored in the winter the last 4 years but it's getting it's first salt bath this winter. One thing I did do once I sold my winter beater(98 grand marquis) last year was to put coils on the mark. Spent some time doing little things(plugs,ff,hid conv, blend door ect) and it's handled dd duty well so far.

I just don't like the fact that I can't tear it apart and not be in a rush to have it put back together come Sunday night.

Thanks, both of those are from what I hear high end paints. Anyways, I was interested because I'm getting ready to paint a vehicle and I've narrowed it down to Kirker basecoat and SPI clear.

just COULDN'T resist. is there a winner to this game? the least amount of $ spent with the best overall mark, or the traditional, the most wins?

I daily drive a Mark VIII....my 97. The 98 stays in the garage 95% of the time. I don't consider myself retarded. Both are on air bags and neither of them have problems with it. Yes, I have HAD problems, but all it takes is noticing something going bad, and replacing right then.....

Too many people will go for 6 months with a car that slams itself every night, and then get all butt-hurt when it all of sudden doesn't pump itself up one day. The whole time, they could have been saving for the replacement parts or just replaced them right away, but instead they act like it's some big surprise when it's all of a sudden "broken".

That, to me, is pretty retarded...

That being said, it helps to have 2 of them, so I can drive the other one if something does happen.

I also have a truck too, so that helps even more... :D

Ok, I meant it being the only means or transportation for a person. Retarded might've been a bit much though on my end. I went through the airbag fiasco alot within the first 2 years owning it, got f'd on a kit and decided to say screw it when a good deal came up on a conv. And I would do it again if put in the same situation. I needed a reliable means of transportation as I was selling my other car and the kit gave me that.

well said. reliability in daily driver. my 98 is mine, the more down time the more im stuck in the house, i came out one day and mine was all the way down. it took me about 5 minutes once i figured out what was wrong and weighed repacing all the parts that were screwed and still may have had to replace the bags down the road, or the pump.coils,done. and , yes, really. had to do it they look identical and i cant stand john clayton, someone who probobly never played any sport as an analyst, fool.
