If you were on a road trip and something catastrophic happened mechanically to your VIII. Oil filter adapter gasket, trans explosion, thrown rod,ect ect.. Moreso if the engine/trans died rather then a major leak of sorts...

I've always wondered what the correct steps would be if you're a thousand miles away from home.

id phone a buddy i could count on or the rents, get the car towed home, rip the motor/trans out to see what happened. fix it and attempt it again!

Call the crew and drag it home and fix it. Not sure where the question is :q:q:q:q breaks, Move on and fix it. I drove mine from Col Ohio, to cocoa beach Fla, to Detroit MI with about 10 mi of drive time after modding it and about 5 mi of driving it after buying it (drove it straight home and put on stands to start modding. If you start not enjoying them for fear they will break it is time to sell it and buy a lease car and start collecting beenie babies lol

how far will the College Art Association tow your vehicle ?
lol its the same as AAA (american automobile association) CAA is (canadian automobile association) but i hope you were just joking around....but stranger things happen...you americans, also think we all live in igloos, and have pet penquins...

If you drive cars you will have a failure at some point. My 93 F150 5.8l threw a rod in the mountains of BC on a trip back to mooresville in the process of moving to Chicago. No cell service 10pm at night and no one around. Truck still ran, just lots of noise.
The hole in the block was big enough I could see the crank, grabbed my ratchet and took the cap off the rod through the hole in the block and knocked the rod into the pan. I walked to the truck stop about a mile and a half away, brake clean, 2 packs of jb weld, duct tape, and 6 quarts of oil.
I cleaned off the block.. made a patch with the duct tape, mixed up the jb weld and slapped it on. Put all 6 quarts of oil in it and was on the road at 2am. drove it almost 3 hours to mooresville.
She wouldn't do over 65 and it was a shaker, traded it in the next morning. I probably could have got a tow but it would have cost more than the truck was worth at that point. Seeing as it ran I just wanted to get home after driving from Chicago and being that close.
The guys at the dealership thought it ran pretty good...lol

Catastrophic failure that leaves me stranded = car given away and replaced with something newer and more reliable.

You don't have a pet penguin???? What good is living on tundra then!

Call up the old man, have him hook the trailer up to the GMC and come get me.

It's happened before...

My old 98 GMC snapped the crank with a markVIII on the trailer behind it.

THAT was interesting.
