So since I've been on this forum I'd always read the that gen1 sports don't have a top speed limiter, well I can verify this as a LIE.

My LS, a v6 5 speed Sport model(all manuals are sports) topped out at 142, then drops to about 138 then goes to 142, and keeps like that. :Bang

So BULL SH1T that the Gen1 sports(at least mine) doesn't have a speed limiter.

What sucks the most is the car had plenty of pull left, felt like 150 would be easily accessible, who knows, maybe 155 or 160 could happen. I really feel my LS could be rev limited because the power doesn't feel like it drops at all to the rev limiter. So I'm decided, I'm tuning my car. Why? Because I feel like a lier, I've told several people that my car doesn't have a speed limiter :slam because that is what I was told(or read several time on here at least). It won't once I tune it.

Why do you need to go that fast anyway? Maybe it's just me but 100 is fast enough to get there in a hurry. Don't take that in the wrong way, because I'm not trying to pass judgement or harp in any way at all.

thats a lot better than the 122 my 1st gen V6 did (non sport) it just felt like such a waste for it to be pulling that hard and then just give up and fall on it face

I don't see why any civilian vehicle needs to be able to go any faster that 75-80 really.

Where are you 140 something miles per hour in Durham?

There's about a dozen places within 5 miles of where I live I can go that fast. It's a farming area, Long straight roads that go for miles and miles with no obstructions, clear view for as far as you can see. There's several roads close by that are over about 10 miles in length, no turns, stop signs, dips, traffic or anything, just openness. Those aren't even roads I drive on.

It may be due to the V-6 configuration. Do you know what tires and wheels came on your car from the factory? No Limit is known to go with z-rated tires on 17" rims. I've been over 150 in my '02 LS Sport.

I'm amused at being told that I don't 'need' to go that fast. It's my intention to take a Maxton record now set at 184 and change. I 'need' to do it.

It maybe because of the tires, or v6, but it still dispels the no limit myth about the sports, at least in this case.

No one needs to go fast, but no one but you knows what you need. Good Luck.

i didnt buy a performance sedan to not go out on an empty open highway and let her stretch her legs out

If it were up to people with your line of thinking, we'd all still be driving around in recklessly fast 30 MPH FORD Model T's.

You don't need to go fast. Only special people that know what's best for you need to go fast.

Yup.

I don't speed, but damn it, it's nice to know I can outrun 99% of cars out there if I need to.

That sucks. I hope you were alone when you reached that speed, if not, it must have been embarrassing to brag about no limiter just to have her show them she had one.

I dont remember reading this, but can you take the limiter off?

Yup. It's in the trunk. Passenger side, behind the carpet. It has a big warning sticker on it that says "DO NOT REMOVE".

Yes, a tune can increase the top speed governor to a level the car will never be able to mechanically achieve, via a tuner.

It's better to know your what your car can really do, it's own limit, not a computer limiting your car and telling it it can't go any faster when it can. Atleast then you can decide to go cam's route or just be happy with your car's limit.

No one was with me

Frog has the rest handled.

the speed limiter on the Gen1 was on any LS without the sport option - most came with H-rated tires - and was limited to 133mph.

what you are describing is not the electronic speed limit but what we all have - hitting the wall - where the force pushing back on the car exceeds the power we have to go faster.

We had several LSes out at an event several years ago - at an airstrip - used a radar gun - ~147mph was the top speed of any stock LS - even though we had lots of room left on the tach.

I ran the Texas 'Top Gun' event for two years - my first year (relatively stock) I hit 147, the second year (lowered, bodykit) I hit 153mph. This is all pre-supercharged.

it sure sounds like the limiter, especially the part where it is still pulling until its gets to a certain point then just dies for a second then its right back in it just to give back up, when i ran out of motor in my mark, it did not "go and stop" (electronically limited) over and over like the LS does when you hit that limiter, it just accelerated slower and slower until it stops climbing at all (drag limited)

nope - the LS engineers specifically explained it us - one limiter 133mph non-sport Gen1, all Gen2

Who needs a 3000sqft house? Who needs air conditioning? Who needs a luxury car? There are many things we have that we don't need.

I tried to top her out, but I got bored. It took forever for even 130.. Yawn..

I agree with Quick on the one..
