This has NOTHING to do with Mark VIII's but I know I have good buddies here & plenty jacks of diferrent trades that can help me!
The main reason why I NEVER do anything to my cars is because I DON'T have time! I'm tired of working for someone else! Tired of being in the office until 7pm & getting home drained! I make decent cash but I'm over worked on a daily basis!

I NEED HELP!

I went to school for a/c refrigeration for 9.5 months back in 2002, didn't graduate. While I was unemployed last year I worked with my stepfather installing home a/c's & I know the trade well. In Miami it's a booming business because its ALWAYS HOT!!! However I'd have to go back to finish school & get certified!

I also became a computer technician back in 2004, however the computer field is always changing! Technology grows faster than Mandingo's hard-on & I'm so far behind now that I'm no longer interested in this filed!

I've always loved cars, I'd love to go to school & become ASE certified so I can start a mobile mechanic type of thing! That or...
Mobile car wash! Another booming business in Miami! Miami is very much like the movies in teh sence that people here are very materialistic! A vast majority of retards in Miami are all about their rides, their 22 inch wheels & how clean & sparkly their custom cars are!

I've also pondered about parting out/selling parts of popular cars for a living (Corollas, Mustangs, Accords, etc...)

So, which way would you guys go? I don't want to do anything where I have to rent a space somewhere because times are tough right now & I can't get a big loan! ANY IDEAS?!?!? By all means, if you ahve your own suggestions, bring 'em!

go work for a guy doing what you want to do for about six months then make your decision.

HVAC is my biz as well as building houses and where I am at there are no jobs. I spent 99 weeks on unemployment. Now maintence for apartments are the only jobs around now. One thing I have learned is, you can make way more money with your mind than with your hands.

Alex the problem in Miami is competition. I can step out of my house right now and get an a/c repair man without having to turn the corner. Unless you can get a big contract with a company doing a/c's. Thats one thing that you have to think about. The mechanic field sounds good but you'll have to get ase certified and from what Ive heard from a few of my friends its a PITA!!! and at the end you wont make a decent living b/c again competition. I know a guy that knows BMW's he used to work at the BMW on US1 and hes an awsome mechanic and had to quit b/c he wasnt making money. Unless you open up your own buissiness it wont work. The route im going is different, im thinking about either opening an ALF, which is a nursing home in a house, or an adult day care and providing transportation. I had most of the money together until my X started giving me :q:q:q:q and I had to blow the cash on a lawyer. But never give up If I earned the cash before I can do it again. My advise to you is think clearly about what you want and do it. If I was you? I would go with computers try and keep up with the updates get a computer repair mobile service and start from there.

Heating and Cooling in Florida is the investment to make, particularly here in Florida. Get certified and license. Does your step-father own the company?

A lot of the mechanics I know are struggling to find work and the dealerships are laying guys off and cutting hours.

Regardless, work is hard to come by and it will remain that way for the foreseeable future. If you have networking in HVAC you're ahead of the game.

The assisted living home is a great business but incredibly hard to do. You really have to be the right kind of person to make that work. It's a 24hr a day job that goes far beyond what's expected. From unexpected illness, dementia, to bat-:q:q:q:q crazy family problems of the residents. It's a great business concept though and it certainly is a growth sector.

Calabrio and thats exactly the route that im taking. I drive for S.T.S here in Miami so im always talking to the ederly and I talk with the people that own these ALF's and daycares and dude they are making a killing...A KILLING!! its such a growing business here in Miami b/c people have to work and they need people to look after the ederly.

don't do it for the money...do it because you want to serve these people with dignity then the money will follow.

Just deciding to go into business doesn't really work... and if you feel overworked now don't start a business.

Go get certified in HVAC and do that...

Problem with computer repair is that a year after I'm done with school, something new comes out & back to school I go! I HATE school!!! lol... I want to go to school for a one time deal.
I know a/c repairmen are all over the place here but reality is word of mouth! My stepdad is overwhelmed with work & he speaks no english! He has told me time & tiem again that he would start giving me his english speaking clients & I can start with him & maybe make his business bigger. I can work with his company but basically on our own!

don't do it for the money...do it because you want to serve these people with dignity then the money will follow.

THAT IS KEY!!! I used to make $56k p/y back in 2005-2009. Now I make $44k p/y! Sh!t, you pay me $30k p/y but with happiness & I will take it!!! I have learned it's not about the money! I've lost my hair due to my stress! So what if it makes nice money! I'm recently married & other than coming home to my beautiful wife, my life sucks! (You guys know if I'm looking forward to coming home to my wife it's gotta be bad! :p )

I don't mind sacrifice! Trust me. If you tell me that the first 3 years of openning a business I will be sh!tting bullets then thats fine by me but its definitely diferent than having to deal with 3 bosses that give you orders at the same time & all their work is priority & the company you work for owes over $700k & the receptionist sucks so you have to answer the phone & well... let me stop. Not worth it. It's a dead end job that pays me well but sucks the long one! Most employers now a days know how tough it is to obtain a good job so tehy abuse their employees because they know they won't be going anywhere!

Long story short, I guess I'm just burned & ready to go out on my own! I'm 31 & never felt hungrier for my own line of work! What route I'm taking is unknown but for sure you guys are awsome! Thanks for the input & by all means keep 'em coming as I will be reading them!

ofcourse I know all about dignity.....Im an STS driver and I have clients that I pick up on a daily basis that I dont even charge them the fare b/c I know that they are poor and dont have money to eat. I deal with alzymers, dimenthea, blind and handicapped. Right now the economy is bad for us that are able to work and earn a living. What about the ederly that make 500 bucks a month. Can you imagine living with 500 bucks is it possible? No way.

Heating and Cooling is always in demand. I think you would find more work doing that then the other options you have listed.

That's the option I would take. I also had schooling for this and houses are always being built and the seasons are always changing. Either the heat isn't going to work for many people or the air conditioning isn't going to work. It's almost like being a grave digger. You'll never go out of business and you already have a nice looking truck that would make you look even more professional. Doesn't take a lot of stock for this line of work and it makes damn good money.

Mobile carwash ! Inital investment will pay itself off fast ! Watertank, high pressure pump, and vacuum on a trailer.

Well when you work on for yourself you do everything, answer the phone, do the accounting, and the actual work...

All I'm saying is do your research before even thinking you can just start a business that will sustain yourself.

I forgot to mention the biggest reason why I want to go on my own! I'm tired of being on call & emailed/woken up at 3,4,5am EVERY SINGLE DAY! I work in the security field! I'm tired of having to wake up at 3am being told by my dispatcher that the guard at ABC Company never showed up. Then I have to boot up my laptop & start calling candidates to go to work at that time. I go to dinner in the evenings & I'm "supposed" to take my laptop with me in the event that I need to schedule someone. I go visit a relative or a friend & I have to have my laptop with me ALL THE TIME! I can't go out of town on weekends unless I tell my company in advanced so that someone else takes my calls & even then I WILL GET CALLED. I NEVER disconnect. With a personal business I will endure sacrifices, I will work long hours but work shouldn't interrupt me while I'm having sex with my wife or while I'm at a restaurant eating dinner with the family!

I like the mobile carwash idea however, there are soooo many around here you would have to think of something unique to make your business stand out from the rest. Do you know anything about repairing TV's? If so, I can get you into Best Buy repairing TV's. They pay well, have plenty of work, and you take the truck home! When you park it, you are DONE! They also have great health benefits and you get a great employee discount.

Damn, that's my line of work right there.

I was going to move this thread to "anything goes," both because it's more appropriate there and because the conversation would include more people... but then I remembered, that means it would include all of the l33t LS owners. So, out of courtesy, we'll leave it right here for a while....

alex, there is TONS of money in the job i do, i am sure with the houses in miami the ornamental iron world is big down there too. people will spend retarded money on aluminum and iron railings, gates, fences and stairs, specially new build homes. i dont mind being a installer/fabricator but its just the place i work for i dont care for. but its a paycheck until i find something better. i get to see some pretty insane homes and work in some of the richest neighborhoods around here. summer is brutal though, being outside for 10 hours straight is pretty rough, i usually weigh in about 20 lbs lighter in the middle of summer, than i do in the middle of winter!! but you dont want to work for the man, neither do i but i have to, i have a family to support and my shop doesnt even come close to keeping us alive by itself.

I hear ya!

last night I sat with my wife & told her of an idea I came up with. For a while my mother has been begging me to help my stepfather grow his a/c business. I was thinking of grabbing the bull by the horn & run with this: Basically create ads in more english speaking areas of Miami (yes, that's how Cuban it is down here, lol) & help his business grow. At first I'd ride with him until I get back in the game. Once I've installed a couple a/c units again & I feel comfortable I will start going on my own with my truck. He can service the spanish speaking clients, I can service the English speaking ones. If it's a big jon, we work together like we have in the past! My stepdad & I have a great relationship & I think it would work awesome! I rather work for him making $30k p/y than working for these retards I work for now!!!
