Howdy y'all

Before I get blasted for not using the search function I want to explain myself. I have attempted to use the search and have found little to no real information about the three items listed in the title. I think the search function of this site needs some refining.

I am planning a purchase of a MKVIII as soon as my insurance settlement is finished off. My goals with the vehicle is to have a decent perfomer without the reliability issues. I know speed costs money, and I don't want to go the route of a supercharger. I want to keep the underhood modifications to a minimum.

I want good performance without sacrificing driveability, and the great sound of a performace cam. So I was planning to keep the modifications to the intake (cobra), cams, and heads. I'm not too worried about the level of difficulty of installing cams (I have friends who are modular engine specialists). I plan on a j-mod for the tranny, but am not going to touch the gearing of the rear end.

What products are out there for heads and cams for the MKVIII?

cams are going to cost alot. because we have 4 cams in are car.. just saying

Fox Lake Racing does nice work on heads. They can also hook you up with a set of custom Bullet Cams.

But I think you will want to reconsider the gears. The 4.6L makes the most power with mid to high revs sitting stock. It is easy to lose torque and HP in the lower rpm range with heads and cams. In my opinion, heads and cams will only benefit from a good high stall converter and steeper gears.

I am aware of that. Would the benefit out weigh the cost?

I guess it would probably depend on how much you've got to spend.....

If you're not gonna be able to buy gas afterward cuz you spent it all, then the cost surely outweighs the benefit....

+1 These car need more stall and gears stock let alone with more cam. If your so against that then you should reconsider the supercharger.

Supercharger would be cheaper then cams and head work with installation. Supercharger will make more power too.

That being said head work is useless. B heads already outflow the motor by a large margin. I have heard good things about Isky split pattern cams and will prolly run them on my next modular build.

Gears, stall, tune, exhaust are your best bets for better performance on a budget.

Thumper cams can be had on the cheap, but the isky split pattern are my choice. Gears and stall are a must. I asked some peeps about this and they said you would have to be stupid to cams and all that and not gears. Oh, and I was asking people walking out of Joan's Fabrics, not gearheads.
