My '95, or my buddy's '97?

i have always been a gen 2 guy so thats what I would do
but for you just chose the body style you like more
they are both at the point that they will want all new parts
ps fix the air ride if you get the 97
 
Either way I go, it will be coil springs. I have had too many car with air ride, TC, Mark VIIs, and Mark VIIIs, and they all piss me off. I don't care about load-leveling. ;)
 
I do appreciate the objective opinion, and I am not disagreeing just to be different. I like the way the stock suspension handles, I just cannot afford to keep messing with it, and to me, the coolness of air ride is ...meh...

My old '93 had real nice air ride, and well kept suspension parts, this 95 has new coils and needs UCAs and LCAs, both are very close. I have also drove 4 other mark viiis, and 5+ mark viis, and 3 tcs on air, in various states of maintainence, and I really feel like other things are holding the handling back rather than having air ride on all of em. I can easily tell the differences between the different characteristics, but it's not enough to make me live with the fear of waking up to see a lowrider where my car was previously parked, nor foot the bill of fixing a completely dead system.
 
97 is overall better..The idle prob could be the iac..Broken cupholder is no biggy, well not for me as i've never used mine. Seems like you'd have a better base to start with.

Take the wheels/tires and coils on the 95 and swap em. Put all thew bad sh!t on the 95 and either sell it or let it sit awhile till you can fix it.
 
Overall I can't say a Gen II is better than a Gen I ... 98 has a much better Tranny but that's all ..

My personal opinion ... Seeing you know the 95 better and all I'd stick with it and put the money into it.

By the time you get that 97 to the point of the 95 you'll be over your $1000.

As for Air Ride vs Springs ... Hey it's what you like ... my 94 and my 93 on springs rides more sound than any air ride Mark I've driven. Air Ride is cool but not needed ...

So Let the ranters rant all they want on the Air Ride and the Gen I vs Gen II .... Gen II guys like them because that's what they are driving ... same as the Gen I guys ... They are both Mark VIII's. 95's don't have the factory Tunes as the 93's and 94's but are tuned as good as any 97. Go rant .. all you want ...

Unless there is something very special about that 97 that you want so bad ... Stay with the car you know is sound and stick the money into it.
 
To me it's a no brainer. The 97 doesn't leak oil and doesn't have trans issues. There's two potentially major $$ repairs you don't have to deal with. The air ride isn't an issue because you want springs anyway. Keep the 97 and deal with the little BS things over time.
 
Okay, this is more like it! I need this kind of input or all I get is my own. Arguing with yourself sucks.

Only thing is, my oil leak and trans issue are both relatively cheap repairs, and both are common. Whereas, to drop a grand on buying the '97 involves risk. Just something to include. I'm still undecided. Also, I still have to hope I can get the '97. lol
 
I don't see the $1000 you speak of. Am I missing some repairs? You need a set of tires and a spring kit. More like $500. The info center buttons are most likely unplugged. There are two plugs. One for the idiot lights and one for the butons themselves. Maybe an IAC valve. As far as the wheels go, swap the snowflakes onto the 97. Still a no brainer IMO.

I understand now. You should be able to get some of your $1000 when you sell the '95. Please repost the pic. I couldn't open it and would like to see the 97.
 
Well, I can't do that. If I sell the '95 I won't be able to swap anything lol.

I do have a couple of ideas tossing around. So I'd love more votes and comments. It helps me keep my thoughts from being too tainted by my own opinion.
 
That would be fawkd up if he peddled his car off, and the new owner found his way here. :p

Anyway, Big Mike, get the 97, swap over all your parts, and part out the 95. That's an idea. You may net more that way. Also, you will have ODB II as well.
