Today I got a PDF of the owners manual for my 97 LSC and I took the fuse chart to my car and got to fugging around.

The fuse for my message center was missing? Not sure how it's working without a fuse cause that wouldn mean the circuit is incomplete but I put a 10a fuse in as listed and the clock didn't reset when I turned it off - I'm hoping even overnight it won't happen!

I also looked at my amp fuse and it said it was a 20A but there was a 30 in it's spot so I swapped them.

Any of this make sense of my battery drain?

Sell me those chrome ten spokes so I can put them on my car the right way.

They have almost new Michelelins on them - what are you willing to pay? I would like to get some Saleens or something different on it.

Seems someone mentioned that fuse number to be checked.

Anywho I know that didnt cure your drain problem but I assume the memory works now?

As for the 30 amp in the 20 amp spot..... that wont make any difference except if it needs to blow! I have a 30 amp fuse in my cigar lighter cause it always blew that fuse when trying to light my cigarette. Well I should say it used to. I switched the radar detector to a differnt fuse that does not interrupt power during cranking so I dont have to listen to the radar detector boot up twice. :)

It worked after 3 min of being off, but Im going to check today when I get home.

How does somethign work without the fuse? Wouldnt the circuit be incomplete?

Also - I dont think someone said 20 - but if they (you) did... then thanks :)

That fuse is just for constant power. The component will still work when on but since it has no power when off it looses its memory. Some aftermarket decks can do that too. I have seen people blow the main fuse but the deck still poweres up when the car is on even though it looses all memory when off.

Ive been real curious about your power loss issue though. Had some ideas but didnt want to throw them out there in fear of being pimp slapped by an angry high school kid. :p

Do the seats (both of them) function as they should? Back and forth, up and down? Something tells me you still have a sticking seat button. If the seats work like they should, my next guess would be a dead cell in the battery.

Pfft Im 24- and Im about to get my GED so back off champ!!! :-P

Toss them at me, I can use any advice at this point... driving me nuts!!

Yeah seats work fine... and this is the 3rd battery its drained =/

That was a joke Sparky. I have been trying for days to help you out. I even pointed you the right way. I will also give you some chit on the way and if you can handle it then you will find I am always willing to help you out and send you parts if I have them. I have sent many people here parts for free just to help them out.

Now if you are gonna get but hurt over some minor ribbing and come back at me with saying you wanna slap me then fugg it, I wont offer help and just wait for your "for sale" thread.

In any case, its no sweat off my sack.

Hey man, I am a ballbuster myself- I dont take any of this chit seriously... its tough to gauge someones atittude off the bat simply by text if you dont know them yet, unless of course I put a :) or :( after every fugging line I right.

I was hoping youd take my pimp slap comment as a joke - thats why it was written as it was - so no hard feelings - u have been helping me alot, and its been much apprecaited - problem is you are pointing a blind horse to water :D

Im starting to figure out the fuses and :q:q:q:q., and would love to make this just :q:q:q:qing work!!!

Anwyays- glad we cleared that up, I figured with all your car troubles lately the last thing u needed was an ass kicking :p

P.S. Im surprised someone quoted that and added it to their sig LOL - Im honored :)

Yeah, it happens.

So here is something else to check but requires you to let the car sit for at least a day since you dont have the right equipment to test it and dont have anyone near you that can rig it.

Your car still kills its battery after a day or two, no? And the battery is brand new, right?
Unplug the alt. I am talking the power feed AND the excitor plug. Let the car sit for a day or so and see if its drained down like before. If it was not then that means the altenator is bad and is staying energized. If it does still have a power los then you need to find that drain.
It will be a corroded power wire near the battery or it will be something that is stuck on. As was said, make sure the seats move in all directions and that the lumbar support works as it should. If any of those switches are stuck then that would kill a battery fairly quick.

Also, have you taken that amps fuse back out and see if that was the issue yet?

Sadly - I ddint take the amp fuse out, I meant to do that last night and forgot.

So I am guessing that I shouldnt trust Autozones approval of my altenator LOL... I'll have to do this next week when I dont need the car, but thanks for the advice. is there any other way to check the alt?

What about having Ford give me an estimate on all the repairs while I have it in for the recall?

i feel your pain..My 98 marquis was the same way with the parasitic drain(think it was from the alarm, aftermarket)..got to lazy to figure out were it was coming from...The thing went through 2-3 batteries a year..Luckily all free under warrenty.

Luckily i sold that peice last febuary.

Autozone idiots only know how to see if the alt is making voltage or not. They don't know how to read the machine to see if the half wave rectifier is bad or how the alt behaves when loaded or when hot. They also don't check to see if the exciter melted and keeps the alt in "charge" mode even when its off.
I really think in your car its one of two things.
I believe its either the alt is always stuck in charge mode thus causing a dead short when the car is off and draining the battery OR the stock amplifier is stuck on and drains the battery. Its rare and not something I would normally point to but you did say the car didn't drain the battery until after you put that fuse back in, right?
May just be me but if I had a car that didn't develop an issue until I changed something then I would change it back.

Do what laser said about unplugging the alternator, completely! No, don't let Ford touch this unless you have ass loads of money because when they get done, you'll need a whole new charging system, new battery, front end alignment, new rack, ect..... They'll tell you all of this for around $90.00

Take the fuse out for the amp but before you do that, please take out the fuses for the seats. I had someone trying to sell me a 95 on craigslist and he had to take a fuse out for the seat because the battery would die over night if he didn't remove it. One of the motors under the seats is somehow drawing power. That's my guess and I'm sticking to it.

So last night I let the car idle for about 40 min after jumping it ( I had to run in somewhere and didn't wanna shut it off and risk not starting - also figured it would be good to charge the batt). I then drove for 20-30 and left the fuse out over night / today about 16 hours later she started right up - :q:q:q:qing a man!!! Now I just have to rewire the entire speaker system with new crap :(

thanks to everyone for their help tho!

How's the message center now? I've been having the same problem in my 97 since I got it. Every time I start it up, it resets. I've read about the #20 fuse, but mine is fine and it's there, so that's not the problem. I guess I'll have to actually pull the message center someday and see what's going on back there.

MSG center works great - And the car is fine as long as I take the fuse out before it sits overnight - I either need to rewire everything, or install a kill switch on the amp like my buddy had in his bronco - one little switch killed the entire system. Im gonna have to see which task I feel like taking on.

...or you could read my post and find the problem and fix it? I'd go with your idea of rewiring everything though, it sounds alot easier and like more fun, but I see a kill switch in your future for some reason judging from your posts... ;)
