Wooo Hoo! Made a deal with a local guy. For the leftover portion of my Head Gasket kit & $35 cash for an 8.8 28 spline limited slip trac loc.

Is there any way for me to know what I'm getting by looking at it? I know it's not a necessity, but how do I know if it is from an IRS car?

Also how do I know if its 28 spline?

Is there any things I need to look at to make sure it's ok?

Man I can't wait to have a limited slip and 4.10 gears!!! :D

Yeah, it doesn't make a difference. I would have it rebuilt before being installed.

as long as its a 28 spline 8.8 it doesnt matter if it was an irs or straight axle same guts inside the center section. count the splines before you actually walk off with it.

Yeah I knew both can be used, but I thought the IRS ones are easier to work with. I'm just curious how to differentiate between one from an IRS car and one from a solid axle car?

Obviously if he doesn't have one from an IRS car I'll take the one from a solid axle car. How can I make sure he's giving me an 8.8 trac-loc and not and open diff?

it doesnt matter if the trac loc came from an IRS or a straight axle its the same exact 8.8 so stfu already! and that picture is you i dont care what you say, that was you in high school.

Trust me, if I looked like that in the past I would take credit for it. That would be awesome to have that as my past picture. Could you imagine being an internet sensation as the dude with the mullet that traveled back in time? HAHAHA!

He does sort of look like I did as a kid though ;)

The number of splines should be 28. Count them. Not sure if anyone mentioned that yet.

We used to chase kids that look like that home from school throwing rocks at them

Half the people in my high school looked like that. The other half were black and had flat tops:D Nothing special where I grew up:D

*Jaime returns to shop to find a hammer has destroyed everything inside*.....:D

If its from a solid axle car, just remove the circlips from the end of the half shafts. Other wise you won't be able to remove them next time. The irs side axle gears have a bevel machined into them, that allows the circlip to compress when removing the axle.
