Last night out of the blue my 97 MK8 started to idle funny. It his hesitating when you try to give it gas. There were two hoses that come off the intake that were rotted and I changed them but still doing the same thing. There is a funny sound coming from the air intake like a air sound or a sucking sound. Anyone have any ideas??????

Check the IAC valve. If its sticky, you can clean it as opposed to replacing it.

Spray some carb cleaner on any vac lines see if the idle changes if it does that line Is leaking. But he did say he has a 97 pull the COP cover over and check each one for cracks replace if cracked

Jamie, you were right, #7 cylinder coil was gone. The good thing is I changed all the plugs and fixed a couple of other small things so it's running great now.

However, you mentioned a sucking sound, if this is a gen 1, they make noise due to a vacuum port in the throttle body, check near the front right of the intake manifold and see if there is black around behind the alternator where the intake gasket would be leaking
