or anyone else that knows?

looking for a rear view like this to put in the 97

I would like map lights but they arnent necessary and the compass would also be nice. I remember my old mark vii had the style of mirror that dips down at the bottom and i want that for my 97.

good info on that, i think maybe continentals had them. It'd be nice to find one that is plug and play...im just really picky about the exact design of the mirror. I want it to be like my old mark vii one.
 
That looks like the Walmart mirror. Why would Ford offer a mirror in the Mark with a compas when the center screen has a compas display?

The 98 mirror is shaped like that but the buttons say something else like "OFF" and that was late 98. The 97 to early 98s have a single suare button on the bottom for dimming function and then the first gens have that slide switch.

I think thats an aftermarket mirror.

I changed the pic. Looking for something like that with the slide switch and maybe map lights. I dont need the compass but it would be nice, i never use the one in the dash.
 
Autozone and Walmart both sell auto dimming mirrors like that but not sure about map lights. I know a guy on Stangnet that put one from a 99 Vette in his GT and it had the built in map lights.

I'd like to stay oem, not an autozone/walmart kind of guy. I think what i need to do is spend a few hours looking over ebay. Thanks for the other picture but i dont like that style. Im really picky and strange about this kind of stuff...its kind of hard to explain. lol
 
My wife's 96 Continental has nearly that exact rear view, with the compass but not the external temp. It has map lights as well.
 
There are a ton like that on Amazon.com as well. All of that is redundant on the Mark VIII.
 
My brother and I recently replaced our mirrors to the one in the picture. That is actually his 93 Mark VIII. I know some 98 Mark VIIIs come with this type of mirror but they don't have the compass, rather just "Auto/Off". Since the compass for the Gen II is attach to the mirror, the compass on the display won't give the correct reading.

that mirror with the off/auto button is the same one in my friends Solara........
