Ok, so i managed to get the linc registered today, put some miles on the car (didnt get too much snow this time) and had a few questions i hoped could be answered....

whats it take to get a dim2 style radio in a gen II, the car came with a cheapie dual single dim deck thats absolutley horrific, also what size speakers does the car have in the back? how had to replace, i think one of them are on the way out...?

My heat doesnt work (no biggie with the heated seats, heat was a recently luxury in my foxbody) but i will need to get it working for the defrost to work well, i read somewhere that these cars have problems with the vacuum operated portion of the heat, how do i find out if that is what i have here?

otherwise the car runs great and was relatively fun to drive, cant wait to get some gears and a tune but thatll have to wait for a few months probably. The brakes feel kinda numb but work great, and traction control is annoying.

Turn the traction control off. Laser is our stereo expert, says it takes a little trimming to get a double DIN in.

Double din just takes a tiny bit of trimming on top and bottom of the INNER opening. Then make some "L" brackets to mount the deck and drill into the dash. The speakers are 6x8

how hard would it be to retrofit 6x9's in there, i know some cars they fit right in to the 6x8's whole. I have a spare set, otherwise i'll have to find a good deal on them somewhere else.

I am not an oval speaker fan. My car has adapter plates and 6.75" mid-bass speakers in the openings.

"L" brackets? You have picks of what you are talking about?

Nope. I could prolly take it apart this weekend to get pics though.

up until now, I have simply used one of those brackets from the various install kits that mounts to the back of the headunit and slides along the track at the bottom of the hole. Pics or even a simple drawing of what you are talking about might help.

Next boys and girls Mr Bill LaserSVT is gonna take his dash apart for you.

I only have lower case L brackets left. :(

Dont worry mang, I will take a pic on Saturday. Once you see it you will see how simple it is. Just bolt 4 small (not lower case) "L" brackets to the ISO-DIN holes on the deck and then slide into the cars opening. You will need to position the brackets so that they hold the deck out of the hole about 1/2" so the decks face is flush with the wood.
If you just use the decks docking ring then the deck will sit too far back.

did you really ask what an L bracket looks like?

No, I was asking for clarification.

I was unclear as to how the L-bracket helps secure the headunit to the dash. A picture or drawing would clarify that.
