Do they make any color matching spray that keeps the sof coating on the secon gen center ash tray lid? Every time I see one for sale its in the same or worse condition as mine. Its always bugged me and wanted it to look like new.
I thought I could sand off the old stuff and respray it but cant seem to find this rubberized stuff any where.
Anyone have any ideas? Here is a pic of what I am talking about.

On my gen 1, I have opted to remove all the rubber coatings and polish the pieces up nice. Worth considering if you can't find any rubberized paint spray.
 
Remove the coating and wet sand with 1000 grit (I think) paper and they should look like new and normal. Jamie has done this before and can show you some before and after pics and it looked real good.
 
I was concerned with it looking lighter. So I should just peel the stuff off, is there any chenicals I should use? Then lightly wetsand with 1000 grit, i assume this is to give some "texture" to it?
I can then use Armorall (I actually use a professional version that does not make it shiney) on it and it should be pretty close in the color match?
 
Oven cleaner will take it off in about 30 minutes. If you can just peel it off I would do that. They sell sanding free primer for vinyl interior parts. I was experimenting with the ivory interior on my old 96 (was a smokers car) when it got smashed in 2005. The small parts I did turned out well. A quick call with your interior code to a rep should help get you what you need. If worse came to worse you could repaint your entire console to ensure a match.

If Jamie would get his bald headed ass on here, he'll see this and can give better details on how he done it but it looked like new and yes, the paper will give it the near same texture but without the worry of another coating coming off again. There will be some scraping involved but it takes time because you're not looking to scrape paint off, only coating. I have seen where some used oven cleaner and let it set on the coating for a few minutes before the initial scraping. I started scraping mine off the other day using a 1/2 inch chisel with a very sharp side. It already looks better but the rest will need to be sanded to give it the flat look and not glossy looking.

One of the cars he done had the same color interior that you have I believe and he made it look new again. He has almost ZERO patience and he done it so I know you can.
 
Thats very nice and even though its a base I could get past it but if I were to get rid of mine it would be for a moon roof car and I would have to get a decient ammount for mine. Untill I repaint the fender and bumper the car does not have much value at all.

It might just be me but I have a moon roof and I might open it twice a year. You live in the heat like I do and that damn thing opened up when the sun is out is no joke. I really wished mine didn't have the moon roof but I can't change that. I just leave it closed and pretend it isn't there. I'm just speaking for myself here but to me, the moon roof is useless. I think a moon roof poll is in order just to see who likes them and actually uses them and who don't.
