either way, i come to this website to learn, and thats what ive been doing, this forum has alot of good stuff to read, i guess we have to take the bad with the good, but atleast we can benefit from this forum

Its sad that some need the same treatment as my 6 yr old. Some feel they have a need to make people feel dumb with their wise ass statements, when all it really does is show them for the ignorant fool they are. Out of all the people who felt they needed to add their input there was only ONE intelligent answer. Thats what this forum has to offer. Mr. Frogman has over 4000 posts and i am sure they are all very thoughtful.

correct me if im wrong, but not all cops have that cover on them that the ls does, ive seen some engines with no cover, and coil exposed, so i was wondering if the coils are destroyed sometimes from that cover, i love all the positive feedback like this is a first grade classroom, get real

Yes, you are not the first to wonder if the COP covers cause them to get hotter, and if that heat is a factor in their failures. Unfortunately, adding some holes (or even leaving the covers off) probably wouldn't reduce the temperature much. There wouldn't be enough airflow. The engines that I have seen with uncovered COPS have then out of top of the engine, not down in a well where water would pool. They also have boots that seal water out of the spark plug wells.

If the covers were made out of metal instead of plastic and had fins on them, that might would help to cool the COPs some.

yes, that what i was looking for, so what type of covers could we design, metal as in aluminum??? its seems like almost everything under the hood is made from plastic, haha but your right about the well where the water would pool, so maybe covers would be the best, but i just saw a few different engines and wondered, thanks!

Great answer and very well thought out. I guess some have never heard the phrase that no question is a dumb question. Some people asking questions on here might not even know what a coil is, and some on here might very well be able to tear down an engine with their eyes closed. If im not mistaken this kind of forum is for some people to ask questions and others to express their knowledge and god forbid be helpful. Kudo's to both JOEGR and GCWIMMER for providing intelligent answers.

On a side note, I can kinda understand someone being sarcastic and steering someone in the direction of the search function when a question is asked thats been covered over and over, but to jump all over some asking a question such as this thread shows alot of ignorance. It seems the ignorant always point out that they are allowed their opinion....and they are, as long as they know along with expressing their opinion they are also expressing their ignorance and lack of character.

You felt like you had to ridicule him for asking the question in the first place. Why? Why cant a guy ask a question and get a respectful intelligent answer. His question wasnt stupid or deserving a dumb comment. You didnt respond in a way to explain why his idea wouldnt work out or even state an opinion for that matter, you made fun of him for asking it from the get go. Opinions are one thing, but making fun of why he would ask such a question is another. You didnt initially respond that his theory has holes in it, you stated why he would ask such a dumb question. It may have been a "thought", but it seems, not a well placed one. There is a reason there is a gasket on the coil covers. And it's not so people have to drill holes into the covers. If FORD could have "gotten away" with not using the gaskets, I'm sure they would have saved the extra few pennies and not used them.

Then, tell me where I asked him amything (little hint: the period "." indicates a statement, not a question, which would normally end with a question mark. They look like this: "?".
