Kustomizing Kid... As promised

Gotta learn sometime! Buy a manual and go to town... with that and this board you can't really go wrong!

I need some of you people around here! cutting my automotive teeth on a Mark VIII, probably not the best idea. :)

nah, when I got my first car I didn't even know how to change a tire.
luckily I bought a ford, so it quickly taught me all the things I needed to know
Changing alternators, water pumps, clutches...transmissions..

The mark 8 should be a great teacher as mentioned above.

Dont let the gizmos and electronics intimidate you...all the basic rules of auto mechanics apply

Yeah, i have already done the alternator on my Mark, next week doing a tune up (Plugs, wires, PCV). Might brave the fuel filter sometime this month. Seriously considering trying the coil conversion too.

How can anyone think different ...

9000 crownvic.net users CANT be wrong.. could they?

oh wait.. They think KK and I are the same person.

those Dumbasses cant tell the difference between a douche and an @sshole.

HAHA

plugs, dont overtighten them.. they have a rediculously low torque setting.
dont under tighten them either, or they will blow out of the head.
There is a "fine line" between too loose and too tight.

and.. Please dont put coil springs on your car.
you owe it to yourself and the car to give "working air ride" a chance.
The cost of 4 air ride bags, versus coil spring conversion is roughly a 200 dollar difference.

a working air ride makes all the difference in the world.

Many times, people convert to coils, then silently "sell off the car" on ebay.
most of them are too proud to admit they made a mistake.
Then there are others that SWEAR by them beause again they are too proud to admit it was a mistake ( it's denial)...

I got 200,000 miles out of my original air ride.
at about 200K I replaced all four bags and at 400K it was still going strong, then the car got stolen.

total cost was 650.00.. and that's a small price to pay for 200K of trouble free miles.

P.S. welcome to LVC Blair
Enjoy your stay...and be forwarned, some of us "regulars" are fairly abrasive with each other at times.

So far i have managed to avoid incurring the wrath of Frogman, so i must be doing something right?

I have to admit, i am a bit intimidated by how they have hidden the plugs on this car. I guess i also need to purchase a torque wrench, eh?

Are you talking about the "engine cover" or the little covers that cover the spark plugs themselves.

Either way.. just take off the "big cover" if your car still has it (many dont)
under it are the smaller plug well covers..they are easy to get out with a 10MM wrench.

yea you should probably invest in a torque wrench

do not fear frogman, he's harmless unless your st00pid... or unless you have "thin skin".

he's actually a nice guy, but he will FLOG ME for stating such in public.

The vanity cover is gone, just the engine there. but looks like i need to take off the air intake to get to one side, and looks like another big block on the drivers side that needs to come off to get to the plugs, or am i mistaken?

yea you'll have to remove the intake tube to get to the passenger side.
believe it or not the passenger side is the EASY side..
Start with the driver side.
there are two vacuum "things" on the drivers side that are bolted to the valve cover, you dont have to completely remove them.. just take the two bolts off and that will give you the room needed to remove the two back plugs on the drivers side.

Tiffany, my girlfriend can change her own plugs in about 25-30 minutes....it's a fairly easy job.

Just becareful with the hard plastic vacuum lines...
The one going acrossed the middle of the intake frequently breaks.. you can patch it with a short peice of vaccum hose if you snap that line.

The vacuum "things" on the drivers side valve cover also have these hard brittle lines.. just becareful when you move them and if they break fix them as described above.

go slow..

Plugs on the Mark VIII are a snap compared to other manufacturers.

Took a friend of mine and I 6 hours and change to change 24 spark plugs on his CL65 AMG. Talk about a nightmare.

Holy poo!!! 24 plugs? did they take a lesson from Ford's 2.3 mid 90's 4 cyl? and 6 hrs...I hope your friend REALLY likes that car...Some days I love my Lincoln, and others I cuss it like it was a redheaded stepchild.

Listening to that and watching fordnuts avatar is funny as hell!

So i took another look, and i see now the spark plug cover on the driver side, i assume there is another just like it on the pass. side under the intake?

YUP!
and if your drive it over to KK's house. he'll show you how to change them..and probably buff your headlights for you as well.

WIN WIN!
