I just got my car back from the shop having it aligned and the tires ballanced before the big trip to PA next month and realized it drives like garbage in town with the J-mod. Its jerky as hell and most of the time cant find which gear it wants to be in. I wish I would have ridden in someones car before I did it last year. Now Im thinking about reversing it and turning it back to stock. Any thoughts?

Did you remove the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulator springs?

If so, maybe replacing at least the 1-2 spring might help enough for you.

I'm not sure about the "can't find which gear it wants to be in", mine doesn't have that problem. Mine drives great, I'm thinking of J modding my green Mark now that it has a good trans in it.

If it can't find which gear to be in there are other problems....

Now if you find the shifts too harsh well there are a few options, I would just pop open my PRP and make some changes but you only have an xcal right? Do you have on device adjustments?

As far as undoing it, at the very least you will need to go find a new separator plate... a junkyard would be your cheapest source.

If its just around town why not turn the OD off? Then you wouldnt have to worry about the 3-4 shift.

Dude... my 3,4 shift in the Vic is severely Jmoded and has way way upped shift pressures and I can "feel it" but wouldn't call it harsh in the least... I don't think the 3.4 can be harsh.

You need to go for a ride with me then....

I think I am going to have the shop forman at work take a look at it.

I agree, But if you need a stock tranny plate I will trade you. I have one I was getting ready to do the jmod to but haven't touched it yet

^lolol sorry k9 lol
but MWB's doesnt do anything except snap your neck on the 1-2 and the 2-3, no hunting what so ever.

Yeah, and I have the exact same plate as MWB. (pre-done by a guy on TCCOA) No hunt at all.

If you got to midnight meyham on the 22nd chicken ill have you drive it and tell me what you think.

sounds like something else.....i have the j mod in mine and its good....something else may be up??

I'd take the whole VB back out, do a full disassembly, cleaning, and buy new accumlators.... If you open it up and there is something wrong it should be obvious... hopefully... lol

Thats probably what I need to do, however with only 3 weeks till carlisle this will have to wait, since im broke and cant afford to pay someone to do it for me.

Are you sure all the solenoids in the valve body are functioning properly?

Sounds just like what my t-bird was doing this winter, couldn’t figure out if it wanted 3rd or OD.

So I removed the valve body took another I had as a spare, cleaned it, new gasket, new solenoids, filter and fluid. Works great now.

Even if money and time are tight I wouldn't just let is go... trans problems don't usually fix themselves...
