weak hid

hey guys...been a while since i was on here last. the car has been running good and now has 66,000 on it. My 1997 lsc has a weak passenger hid. it is still on, but not to the point it emits any kind of light to drive by. from the front end it is noticeably dimmer than the driver side. and from a driving perspective, it might as well be burnt out all the way cuz its that dim. there is a clear plastic cover on the back side of the light with the level for the light inside on the light? this cover does not seal tightly, but i dont think that is the problem. weak ballast? i dont know. any ideas guys?
 
bulb is done, find another, get ready to pay too.
no such thing as a weak ballast, the ballast either works, or it doesnt, it wont send low current to the bulb, its almost never a bad ballast, specially if the bulb is lighting up, even a little, that means the ballast works, the capsule cracked inside the hid bulb and the gas has leaked out, or almost all out, thats why it is dim, you need a bulb period.
 
no i dont have any left, lately im lucky to sell one for 100!!! they used to bring crazy money.
 
so you think a hundo is the most i should pay? thanks. any ideas where other than e-bay?
 
i'm not saying they are worth 100, i'm just saying that when i list them on ebay now i dont get much for them anymore, i do see people paying more than 100 for them still, just not when i have them lol. people must really hate me now and dont want to buy anything off me anymore! must be because of how opinionated i am.
 
Might be a stupid question but Jamie, can he not just pay $60 for a new HID conversion kit and install 2 new ballast and 2 new bulbs and be done with it? I would just say the bulbs for the kits but I wouldn't use old ballasts if I didn't have to. Might not be a good mix anyway but for $60, he could get it all if it can be done.

I don't know much about gen 2 HID lights, but I think you cannot use an OEM ballast with an aftermarket bulb due to the AC/DC difference.

Yeah, he could use a complete aftermarket, non DOT approved HID kit but I think he would need to make or purchase adapter rings for the aftermarket bulbs to fit into the housings. Not sure on all the details but I think that's how it all goes.

Mafioso does a complete kit for gen 2 owners which includes the HID kit and adapter rings.

I'd just step up and get a conversion or make a conversion kit to use a whole new HID kit... one of the first things I did to my car and I feel it was a very good decision...

I sold my old bulbs and make all my $ back :D
 
I've done two of mafioso's conversions so far on gen 2's and i'll tell you he offers a nice product. I also have 4 hid bulbs (two of them plug and play for your car) that i'll part with for 125 each shipped.

You cannot use oem ballasts with aftermarket bulbs. Oem uses DC voltage (only hid to do so) and where all the other hid's you see today aftermarket and facotry uses AC.

You could use an aftermarket kit and make up your own adapter plates, i actually have a spare set of aluminum rings (mafioso's) that i would part with if your interested in them, pm me and i'll walk you through whats involved I have all the pics which is basically step by step on my photobucket. When going aftermarket try to get the slimmer ballasts (mafioso has these) because I have found out exactly where to mount the ballasts with NO drilling on a gen 2 and they tuck perfectly under the pockets of the beauty cover. :) The fatter ballats will work but not as nicely.
 
thanks guys.i read a long post awhile back about mafioso's kit. sounds like one of my best options. gonna open up a new thread and see what people think as far as pros and cons of buying the "used" hid bulb or doing the mafioso type kit.
 
I'd just step up to the conversion now so you can sell your good bulb.... Mafioso told me his bulb kits last for an average of 15,000 hours.... and when a bulb goes out a new set of bulbs is only $60.... also they are brighter hands down.... I also went with 6000k which I like a lot better than 4300k.... but that is just me.
